Finally got a chance to check this place out after having walked past it every day for a month. It's got a great look to it, sort of a mash of hispter cool and 1920's art deco. Anyway, we swung in for a late breakfast on a Saturday, and grabbed a table inside because all of the outside perches were full. The vibe and the decor in here are perfect for a lazy Saturday, although if I were hungover, it might have been a little bright to my liking. The seats against the wall were reclaimed theater style chairs, which were super comfortable. So much so that I broke my usual rule of not sitting on the same side as the wife, and plopped down next to her.
Anyway, we ordered up a couple of coffees which were done just right, a flat white for me and a long black for Gwen. Nothing crazy, but well done. The menu is sparse, but has something for everyone, and I prefer a tight menu where you know they're confident in the items they serve up.
I had the smoked salmon something-or-other, which was beautiful. Lot's of delicious smoked salmon over sturdy toast with some kind of creme-fraiche type topping. It was recommended by the waitress, and it was just what I needed, not too heavy, but really filling. The wife had the mushroom salad and added some chicken to it, she said it was A-ok, so we were both stuffed. I also threw in a croissant because they were calling my name from across the restaurant through the glass case. Toasted up nicely, it was probably more than I needed, but who cares.
All in all, friendly place that's laid back, but takes their food and drinks seriously, a winner just up the...
Read moreThe place has an uneven concrete floor which most likely has been begging for repairs for over a century. There was poddles of water on it and remind me of cheap eateries in Bolivia, the table had bread crumbs left unclean after the previous customer, the walls are dirty and a new coat of paint will do them no harm, however the reviews are incredible, so I set all those first impressions aside and ordered Eggs Benedict and a black coffee. For some reason, they have decide to put spinach on them, what mentally insane person decide to perform that gastronomic crime against humanity is beyond me, the bread was less than fresh and the eggs were over cooked in typical Glebe style (If there is such thing), as for the coffee, it was so bitter that made the mind of my ex mother in law seem sweet. A disgraceful place that makes me envy people that die...
Read moreFirst time diners after checking the online reviews. Easy to park on the street on Sunday morning for brunch. Great menu, great coffee and nice fresh juice options. Inside tables are fixed so they do not rock. However, getting more than 4 people around a table with all their food and drinks is a challenge. Food was great but our table of 5 was served over a 5 - 10 minute interval rather than all together. Not a biggie but noted. Wait staff need to learn that serving customers from across the table is not okay. It was noticeable and seemed to be common practice. Not a venue for a large group. Keep the group to 4 or less. The vacuum cleaner at 1000 was less than pleasant, but obviously a staff member with no regard for customer...
