The food was good as usual, however, the customer service I had from Mamak was the most terrible in my whole life. The staff that I was speaking to for my inquiries about purchasing another voucher made me feel like I was telling her a lie and I was even requested to show her the evidence of using the voucher before to make it clear and I showed the history of my credit card expenses for proving it by using my phone, which is not a big deal to me. My expectation since then was her apologies, however, her face all of a sudden unexpectedly turned red, and she rudely said she would allow another buy of the voucher this time only without saying "I am sorry" and making a big sigh, but I was already very upset, and I also let her know that I will not buy the voucher instead I will use my credit card for the payment. Well, I have been a loyal customer to them for eight years as of now, and I also know her face as well. The fact that I was calm during the conversation until I showed her my phone for credit card history but she got frustrated herself first, and she treated me as a dodge person who is acting like the people who make the best effort to reduce the price, made me feel very frustrated and upset. Thanks to this, My family dinner was completely ruined, and we all just finished the food asap in a hurry and got out of the restaurant as we all did not feel like staying there long enough. I think I also now get to know why there are a lot fewer people inside the restaurant now than before even during their core business hours on Sunday night. During the time that I was speaking to her, no other staff cared about it either as well, which tells everything about the level of their customer service. This is the best place for the...

Another bad experience: Returned here and wanted to order lunch special kangkung. Merely asked if I could get some gravy on the side, a scoop of it if at all..but it was just too 'expensive' you see that they had to declined. The gravy is readily available probably in the largest pot and a scoop would be huge out of pocket for them !! Just too much to ask I guess. I Simply just walked out of there and went straight to Ya Malaysia as I wasn't about to waste another second or my money on this establishment. I know the Chinatown owner of Mamak who was just lovely and forever catered to his frequent customers n their requests..but these staff at Chatswood.. geez, come with no training! No words.

Bad Experience in the past: Ordered their fish curry lunch special last Wednesday and was served up with uncooked fish. Should have taken a photo! Upon informing the staff, all they could say was , "Oh I'm sorry". Absolutely 0 customer service or genuine apology such as offering to cover costs for another meal or an offer of a free drink or dessert. It was almost like a 'hey too bad you had uncooked fish but pay up in full anyway' attitude. Little do they realise that this experience will be shared with family, friends and on social media. Would not be returning only because there was no thought placed on the...

I was so intrigued by the newest review below that I had to drive all the way here to try it. Did the food at mamak become subpar? I was appalled by such accusations! So I came, and I ordered nasi lemak, mee goreng, roti and I would want to say that the claim(s) made below is(are)absolutely baseless.

The taste and quality of the food has been the same (unchanged) since the beginning of business for Mamak and service has been great. (Staff has been so accommodating to my requests that they gave me extra fish curry. +brownie points). Had the nasi lemak rice as well and there is obviously coconut taste as well. (Maybe I’ve recovered from Covid hence has better taste buds as well, no offence here)

Also to the review below, I’m not quite sure about your knowledge of food but Medan ciak is Indonesian and not Malaysian. Please get your facts right. Can’t compare apple with oranges can you?

Also to prove that I am not a phantom poster (or the owner of mamak) here’s a photo of my food as evidence.

Thanks Mamak for hitting every spot of my cravings esp the fish curry! Has always been a wonderful experience...

This is hands down a really authentic Malaysian mamak restaurant (spoken by a Malaysian). The teh tarik tastes exactly as it is in Malaysia (they import/ use tea leaves from Malaysia). The roti canai is fluffy (with that centre smack) with its dhal, curry and Sambal are spot on; so is the roti bawang telur. Mutton curry - very good, generous chunks of tender lamb. Chicken and beef satay with the peanut sauce - all really tender, nicely charred and delicious. Maggie goreng with generous chunks of tofu, veggies and egg and slices of cucumber were great. Even the ice kacang dessert was authentic with the taste of real rose syrup bandung from home and the right amount of ingredients ie cincau, red bean, sweet corn, etc. Service was warm and friendly. Atmosphere is practical (mamak isn't supposed to be beautifully decorated and such) but the restaurant is clean and comfortable. If you're looking for the real deal of Malaysian mamak food, this is it. They also have branches in Chinatown, other parts of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Our lunch at Mamak yesterday. We had the Mamak rojak, roti, nasi lemak and fried chicken. The rojak was beautifully presented and tasted great as usual. however, the crackers on top could have been crispier as it was an important textural element of the dish. (A good dish to try if you never had it before, dressing is sweet and not spicy) The nasi lemak was good, the coconut rice was perfectly cooked, sambal was good too. We always enjoyed the fried chicken and we ordered them at every visit. Roti was a bit disappointing, a little bland and soft, it is supposed to have a crispy exterior that pulls apart with layers inside. Must say I was also not too keen on the ordering via app at the table, it lacked the personal touch, not giving new customers a chance to ask questions about the dishes without actually calling a staff over; and restaurant missed the opportunity to introduce the dishes and perhaps upsell. Staff didn't not offer the option of ordering with them directly. After all that said, we had an enjoyable lunch.
