Mikazuki has two locations in Parramatta, one at Riverside and one on Macquarie Street. I have been to the Macquarie Street venue about four times. Each time in this busy the eatery the food was outstanding, providing a range of Japanese food often not found in other similar restaurant.
This time I experience Mikazuki via Uber Eats. Not the best way to showcase a chef’s creation given it arrived at my workplace on the back of an Uber motorcycle doing a magical mystery to tour before our delivery. As you will see below my dinner survived the Uber journey.
In the circumstances I forgive the need to give my dinner a blast in the microwave.
The miso soup was unexciting and the best I can say it was “nice”. My main dish however was worth the wait. I ordered the Seaweed Garlic Butter Chicken Don which included braised char grilled chicken, seaweed garlic butter topped with roasted seaweed nori, pickles, rice, onsen egg, teriyaki sauce, sesame and shallot - see my photograph.
In case you do not know, an onsen egg or onsen tamago is a traditional Japanese low temperature boiled egg which is slow cooked in the hot waters of onsen in Japan. The egg has a unique texture in that the whole tastes like a delicate custard and the yolk come out firm, but retains the colour and creamy texture of an uncooked yolk. Even after a trip with Uber Eats I could see and taste this egg in my dish.
Having been reminded of Mikazuki I will visit again when in Parramatta soon. Definitely...
Read moreI don’t normally write reviews however, my experience this past weekend was so poor compared to previous mikazuki experiences. We had a group of 12 therefore made a booking as it was saturday and was told 8pm was the only available time. On arrival, we let the staff know about our booking and was told it would be a 5 minute wait, This then continued for the next 40 mins, constantly being told it was another 5-10 minutes, with a multitude of excuses being used. Finally we were seated at 8:45pm then placed our order. Entrees came out and were standard however when it came to our mains, they were staggered to the point that from the first main to the last main there was roughly a 30 minute difference. By this time, the restaurant was no longer busy and whilst we did have a large group, having mains spaced out that far apart doesn’t make a great dining experience especially when 1. we already had a late booking and 2. made to wait a substantial amount of time before being seated. It also appeared as if they forgot about the last two mains as a server had to come out and confirm what else was missing. Overall, the food was not even worth it, as the portions looked smaller and did not have the same level of taste compared to their other venues. Definitely don’t recommend the riverside location and would rather go to their main...

Cant wait to try more everything! Service was great, they were quick with the drinks, the only downside was the orders was staggered meaning one of us had to eat when everyone was done but they owned it and they gave us free takoyaki!
