Read more[Not sponsored by HSB] Btw they have a RESTROOM, but it is a bit far from the hand wash, beyond the kitchen. You can catch a glimpse of their kitchen though. PARKING is available on the street and plenty of secured parking nearby at fixed prices starting at $12. Parking on the street is free on public holidays.
This review is for people who would like to explore Tamil cuisine. I can relate to the feeling where you want to try a new cuisine but don't want to end up at a restaurant where the food isn't authentic plus you regret paying so much for a food you didn't like.
HSB is a very popular vegetarian restaurant in south india esp Tamilnadu. So it's a no-brainer to visit this place when you are craving for idly, dosa, vada, pongal, sambar, chutney, filter coffee, etc.
We went in here for the first time. Were looking forward to having the breakfast buffet but unfortunately it isn't available during public holidays and weekdays. What a bummer!
As we arrived we were given a table. Scanned the QR code to access the menu app and placed orders from it. You can place orders for multiple items and pay altogether at the counter near the exit. Add items and click on your table number on the left to confirm the order.
We ordered :
Channa (chola) batura - 5/5 Taste and quantity was spot on 👌
Parotta and gravy with white chutney - 4/5 Taste and quantity was good. Parotta felt a little thick and heavy.
Paper roast - 4/5 Dosa was good size. But the chutneys were less in quantity. Little more of the white chutney and sambar would be nice.
Watermelon juice - 5/5 My kid loved it!
Filter coffee - 4/5 I wanted more sugar. Had mentioned it while ordering but they didn't bring.
Masala Tea - 4/5 It was for wifey. She felt the proportion of milk was more.
STAFFS : Are courteous!
We will visit this...
Read moreMy experience with Saravanaa Bhavan in Paramatta has been a disaster the last two times I visited. Earlier, though its over priced for the quantity they offer, I didn't experience any issues on the food or service front. However, my visit yesterday was extremely disappointing on several front.
To start with, 1 set of medhu vadas, 2 filter coffees, 1 masala soda and 1 samosa chana chaat costed me a whopping 45 aud which is expensive for a set of brunch like dishes and not main course meals. But I understand, pricing is subjective of many factors and I have been considerately visiting the restaurant time and again due to my positive experiences.
However, last two visits with the latest one yesterday (22/03) has absolutely terrified me. The audacity to have a set of AUD 5 Indian specialty coffees served in normal room temperature to native Indian customers!! It wasn't even warm, straight out room temperature which my mom and me felt abusive having to drink after paying nothing short of the market price.
Samosa chana chaat was average and unpresentable, but the dosas and idlis along with the chutneys and sambar which I usually order are super authentic in taste and those are a must try here.
Service has been basic across all my visits and hygiene is questionable especially in the handwash area where I came across 3 cockroaches running around.
Team, please be considerate of customers coming to dine at the restaurant. For the prices charged per items, I believe it is fair of me to expect at least good food, let alone the service.
I'm tad too devastated to give myself a second chance to visit anytime soon, may be in the distant future sometime with an expectance of better food...
