Since my first visit to willo .. I decided to give them another chance..sadly was still disappointing...then I went a 3rd time to take my partners aunty out for her birthday as she had been wanting to come here. Well we all regretted it. They MB4+ Wagyu Intercostal Skewers was full of inedible gristle, cartilage all through the meat... so I am doubtful of the integrity of the meat.. as it was more like blade steak not wagyu.. I cannot move on from how poor the quality of the produce is. It saddens me to update this review with more negative experiences. First Visit as below. Never did I expect this type of dining experience at a chef hat restaurant. After wanting to come here for so long I decided to take my partner here for dinner as a valentines day gift. Dining here ruined our night. I do not like to leave negative reviews .. and I may dine here again for them to have a chance to redeem themselves as I don't believe they probably operate this poorly normally. Seating - outdoor seating with outdoor chairs and wobbly table. No table piece very lacklustre. Had to ask for napkin and utensils. Cold evening and none of the 5 outdoor heaters were working. Waited 45min for starters to come out and still was waiting on our drinks. Overall a stressed environment due to biting off more then they could chew. I do not blame the wait staff as they were truly feeling the pressure of the disorganisation. Food - I am someone who dines out frequently .. the food lacked any finesse, not well presented. I was hoping it would be the wow factor to change my mind however food was more like function food.. normal menu looks far more superior. 730 booking due to huge delays with receiving meals did not get home til after 11pm .. disappointment and mood of the environment outweighed the romance sadly. If I could redo my evening again.. I would not have come here.

Willo Parramatta sits at the base of 32 Smith Street, whose major tenant is QBE Insurance Australia. The curved, translucent tower wrapped in timber louvres was designed by Fender Katsalidis after they won a competition held by the City of Parramatta. The design, which was inspired by the adjacent riverbank, uses a textural palette of glass, timber, concrete, iron and bronze that extends into the attractive restaurant space. Willo is elegant, part of the new breed of Parramatta restaurants targeted at the city’s corporate clientele. It joins spots like Ruse Bar and Brasserie, though here when you order the pricy roast chook ($52), you actually get the whole bird. The chicken is juicy and cooked on the bone with sriracha, pearl onions and grilled chilli. A trio of Skull Island Tiger Prawns ($48) arrive split with garlic chips and a near-burnt chilli oil that’s so good you’ll need to order extortionately priced slices of black garlic sourdough ($5.50/each) to mop it up. With glistening slices of citrus, the kingfish ceviche ($28) in yuzu dressing with dabs of avocado puree and sesame seeds is beautifully handled. As are soft-centred batons of tempura-battered eggplant drizzled with a compelling caramelised sweet and sour sauce spiked with fermented chilli. Service is warm and friendly but stops short of the slickness you might expect in a spot that looks this fancy. Cocktails are more cohesive than they read. While slightly sweet, Drunk on Nostalgia ($21) is one of the best lychee cocktails I’ve tried, teaming Havana Club 3 Cuban white rum with St Germain and Cointreau. The elderflower liqueur also makes its way into the Amore Crush ($21) with Licor 43, Four Pillars Rare Dry Gin, basil, pomegranate, cranberry and pineapple: don’t ask me how it works, but it does.

My husband and I, along with another couple, had the pleasure of dining at Willo on a weekday evening this last week, and it exceeded all expectations. From the moment we arrived, the experience was seamless. We were greeted warmly and shown to our table immediately, which was ready and waiting for us. The service throughout the evening was impressively efficient without ever feeling rushed. We started with cocktails and starters, and I must say the bar menu features some excellent gins. Every dish demonstrated exceptional preparation and technique. The flavours were absolutely mouth-watering, a beautiful fusion that somehow felt both inventive and perfectly balanced. The freshness of the ingredients really shone through in every bite. Our mains were excellent, as were the accompanying side dishes. While they had unfortunately run out of pavlova by the time we were ready for dessert, this minor disappointment was more than made up for by our exceptional waiter. Speaking of which, I cannot say enough good things about Leandro, our waiter from Italy. He was the highlight of an already wonderful evening, friendly, smiley, and incredibly quick-witted. His suggestions were spot-on every time, demonstrating a deep knowledge of both the menu and how to pair dishes. He was genuinely personable without being intrusive, striking that perfect balance that marks truly great service. If you’re dining at Willo, do yourself a favour and ask for Leandro. He's a wealth of knowledge and will enhance your experience immeasurably. Highly recommended for anyone looking for quality dining in Parramatta. We’ll definitely be back!

A friend who had a positive experience at this place made the recommendation. For a night out thought it would be something different, especially considering it was rated as a one hatted restaurant.

Making the reservation was easy, the staff who showed us to our table were friendly but from there it went downhill.

Let’s start with our table, located in the foyer of an office building. The art lobby they called it. Nothing art related at all. Bunnings plastic tables. The decor, simple but nothing special. Noted that once the diners left the table cloth was taken off, shaken out beside the table, turned over and reused for the next patrons. Really? Put us offfour food actually.

The service. Staff were friendly enough but for a restaurant that has a rating of 1 hat I would expect a level of service that is attentive to your dining experience. For instance, the entrees came out before the appetisers and before we knew it we had 4 dishes to work through. Almost like it had been prepared for another table but redirected to ours. When we asked about the appetisers coming out after we had our entrees there was a blank look from the wait staff. Normally you would also receive your drinks before any meals come out but they came after we had finished both entrees and appetisers. Once again, unusual but Ok. Going with the flow.

The clincher came when the mains came out.

My squid pasta came wrapped in baking paper and the pasta had all congealed as a solid lump with the seafood in place. The squid was chewy and the pipis tough. It was almost like it had been warmed in a steamer within the baking paper, lumped on a plate and the finer expected to unwrap it. Very odd.

When our sides came out we had to ask the waiter again for utensils to be able to serve our ourself. Attention to detail.

The potatoes sides were supposed to be crunchy as advertised in the menu. They were soft as if they were in a Bain Marie and shoved on a bowl before serving.

Regarding the entrees, the soufflé seemed as if it was rewarmed and the texture was undercooked. The kingfish was most likely the better dish of them all.

Overall, we won’t be coming back. We were not happy with the evening and couldn’t pay for the bill and get out of the place quick enough.

One hat restaurant accredited but somehow didn’t seem to match the service we received. I know of a family restaurant up the road that has better experience, food and atmosphere and they don’t have a one hat rating. I will be going there...

I attended Willo with a reservation on 14th September at 8pm. It was planned for a birthday celebration for my partner and meant to be a joyous occasion. Some feedback:

  1. Main door was kept open blowing cold air all night throughout the establishment- can’t imagine why this was left so as it made the interior chilly
  2. After we were shown to our table, we were kept waiting a good 15-20 mins before anyone came around to take our order. The staff even apologized and said that the manager would come around to take our order as they were busy.
  3. The entrees came fairly quickly and were lovely.
  4. The mains took another age to come, (30-45 mins between entree and mains) and I am acutely aware of this as the wait staff come to apologize for the wait and informed us that the food would be coming out soon.
  5. After finishing the mains, we waited a long time again before anyone came to attend to us to clear the table and asked if we wanted desserts. The staff asked how the meal was, I responded that it was ok- she said ‘just ok, not amazing?’. I personally thought the mains were average, but it would have been fine if not for the lengthy wait throughout. Assuming she said that also because she was used to people saying that everything was ‘amazing’. Additionally, after hearing that response, she didn’t say anything else and proceeded to clear the plates. Perhaps an education session on service recovery to staff would be appropriate.
  6. We did order some dessert and knowing that it was my partner’s birthday, they kindly organized a sorbet dessert for celebration. It was a thoughtful gesture which I appreciated. However, by that time, we were left with a pretty sour taste in our mouths by the whole experience and found it hard to find the affair cheerful. For an 8pm dinner, we left close to 11pm when the restaurant was closing, and it wasn’t because we were eating continuously and having a great time. Overall a very disappointing experience that marred what was suppose to be a happy occasion for celebration. I received an email from Steve Jreji (Director) the next day requesting for feedback on the experience which I promptly provided as above. I guess a response was not warranted because I never heard back. Which led to greater disappointment, indicating service does not seem to be at the forefront of this...
