This is the BEST authentic restaurant in Sydney. We were a regular before the refurbishment. Always great flavours and excellent value for money. Now the restaurant is twice the size. It's a little disappointing that the old bench seats have disappeared. That's progress I suppose. Parking is always horrendous, but definitely worth the effort. All the menu items are the same as before, with a great selection of fantastic flavours. We live 1 hour away, but chose to go there because of very positive reviews. The restaurant was a simple, no frills environment, but the authentic flavours exceeded our expectations. Finally a smokey fried rice! Every dish was of the highest quality, and the staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful. We would give more than 5 stars if we could. Will definately back. Maybe tomorrow. Lol

Our favourites are: #5a Shu mai with pork #6 spring rolls (6pcs) #11 shallot Pancake #13 pan fried pork bun #16 pork garlic chive dumpling steamed small #14 S Chicken shiitake dumpling steamed small #89 Shanghai fried sticky rice cake with shredded pork #134 yang zhou fried rice #177 deep fried shredded beef #77 beef stir fried rice noodles #154 fried calamari with chilli #189 sesame honey chicken #223 red bean pancake

Very reasonable prices. Run don't...

Had dinner here the other night and found our experience to be quite pleasant. We ordered the: Beef and leek dumplings; Fish and shallots dumplings; 218- combination seafood with veggies and bean curd; White rice.

The beef and leek dumplings were the highlight for me, yet for my partner it was the fish and shallot dumplings. Both dumplings tasted nice and the table came with two different types of sauces. If you fancy chilli you'll have to ask one of the Chinese Aunties.

The combination seafood with veggies and bean curd was quite flavourful too and came with a bowl of white rice. The dish is nothing too special, but it hit the spot. Homely.

The aunties were quick, direct and efficient in terms of service. You can even see them making the dumplings in their "free" time in between serving customers.

The place was done up and looks a lot bigger and better than what it was. Definitely a big improvement for the owners.

We enjoyed our dinner and...

Unfortunately our experience was very disappointing. We were craving dumplings, so we ordered large serve of fried dumplings as well as garlic eggplant and Chinese broccoli, and 2 cokes for the drinks. We were given Coke Zero instead of normal Coke, which is fine - but should’ve been the first indication that the service here was poor. Our eggplant came out first - credit to the chefs because this was delicious. Then our broccoli came out, and this was quite average. The boiled water they have at the restaurant tastes kind of metallic so unfortunately this affected the flavour of the broccoli. we waited a further 30 minutes for the dumplings, which never came. When I tried to flag it with one of the waiters I was brushed off and told ‘yeah it’s coming it’s coming’. Another 20 minutes went by and we decided to leave. Thankfully they took the dumplings off the bill given they never served them to us, but disappointing to...

I first came to this place 2 years ago. However they recently renovated and changed their name from Flavours Shanghai to New Shanghai Night. It looks clean, spacious and casual. All the ladies making dumplings at the shop front are friendly as they greeted customers coming in to the shop. Menu is extensive and can be a bit overwhelming to choose from. I saw a chef special dish that caught my eye - crispy tofu with salted egg yolk. I also ordered xiao long bao and fried pork and cabbage dumplings. Portions are good and even had some leftovers to takeaway. The tofu is soft on the inside and coated well with salted egg yolk sauce on the crispy outer layer. Xiao long bao is juicy and bursting with flavours. The only dish that I didn’t like much was the fried dumplings because the skin is too thick. Maybe I should try the steamed version next time instead?! 3.5 stars 🌟
