First of all, i really like this restaurant since it’s affordable and the meal also delicious. I’ve been coming here for three or four years. But something very unpleasant happened at lunch today.
Around 2 p.m., I ordered a plain wagyu beef don and a bowl of miso soup, then I clearly heard the staff member taking my order call out in Japanese: "One plain wagyu beef don, one miso soup, have here."(I understand basic Japanese.)
Then I moved to the pay station. Since I’ve been here a few times, I know that if you order miso soup, you usually get it at the pay station. But this time, after I paid, the staff didn’t give me the miso soup. Since the wagyu beef don is made to order, I thought it might come together later, so I went to find a seat.
However, even after my wagyu beef don arrived, the miso soup still hadn’t come. So I went back to the pay station to ask. The cashier is a short-haired girl and wearing glasses, she operated the POS machine and was about to charge me.
I said: "I should have already paid for it." She replied that I hadn’t and that I’d only paid for the wagyu beef don.
But I definitely ordered the miso soup, and I clearly heard the staff member call out my order. I assume the cashier just didn’t hear it, so I decided to forget about it. I said that it’s all right and then I went back to my seat to eat.
A short while later, the cashier specifically printed out my receipt, came over and told me that I had indeed only ordered the wagyu beef don.
I found this unbelievable. If she didn’t hear it and didn’t charge me for the miso soup, thats fine, I didn’t want it anymore. But why go out of her way to print the receipt and insist that I hadn’t ordered it?
Was it really me who didn’t order it, or was it the cashier who didn’t hear it?
I hope the staff can be more attentive during working hours. I really don’t want something like this to happen again the next time I come...
Read moreOiden has been around for years. I have been back here time and time again, and I have never been disappointed. Highlights and tips: They have indoor and outdoor seating. During busy times, you may need to share your table with others. For outdoor seating, it is still within the building and can be shared with the nearby japanese restaurants like Mappen or Dera Uma. To get your food, you will need to queue to place your order for the mains, wait for it to be prepared before moving on to choose sides. If you want to buy a drink, remember to get that first before you move to the order section. They have a wide variety of hot and cold sides. There are also desserts available to pick if it is still in the designated refrigerator. Depending on your appetite and the variety you may be after, you can get quite a decent spread. Pricing wise is also very reasonable. Payment is at the end. They accept both cash and card. Complementary tap water is available after payment. Oiden recommends getting your food first before securing a seat. During busy times, this can be a little inconvenient, but most patrons are relatively considerate and dont hang around. So, worth considering coming here during non-peak meal times. Decor is very apt, and all the times I have been there, they play a variety of Japanese music, which adds to the atmosphere. Once you have finished your food, do remember to take your tray of empty plates and bowls to the designated area.
In many ways, Oiden is low fuss and feels like a healthy, fast, good food choice. A place that I am happy to keep coming back in...

One of their standout dishes is the Ontama Takana Salmon, which is a must-try dish. The salmon is perfectly cooked and is served on a bed of rice with a delicious sauce that brings out the flavors of the fish. The dish is topped with a perfectly cooked egg that adds an extra layer of flavor and texture to the dish.
What sets Oiden Bowl Bar apart is not only the quality of its food but also the ambiance and service. The restaurant has a cozy and welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel like you're dining in Japan. One notable thing I like is their classic and traditional Japanese music playing in the background that sets the mood perfectly for a great dining experience.
Another notable thing that makes Oiden Bowl Bar a great restaurant is its affordability. Despite serving high-quality food, the prices are very reasonable, which means you can enjoy a delicious Japanese meal without breaking the bank.
Overall, if you're looking for a great Japanese restaurant in Sydney that offers authentic and delicious Japanese food with a cozy ambiance and affordable prices, then Oiden Bowl Bar should be at the top of your list.
