I’m a long time fan of Oiden from its main shop in the city but my experience with the Burwood shop has been underwhelming.
The shop has recently opened so the shop looks quite bare and the lack of Japanese decor is quite noticeable (especially compared to its flagship shop in the city) but I am sure will improve with time.
My biggest disappointment has been with the service time - food came out very slow, especially compared to the main shop in the city. I’m not sure why it takes a 15-20 minute wait when the city shop gets it done in less than 5 minutes.
Also, there is much less customisation of meals at this shop: there are no toppings section or side dish section. Being able to add as much or little spring onions or kaki crumbs as you want is a core part of the Oiden experience in my opinion and I’m disappointed this is completely absent.
Even worse, we ordered the toji katsu don and when we got the order, there was egg that was basically raw. We had to ask them to cook it again (which thankfully they were happy to do).
I hope things improve, but for now, better to head to Town Hall for...
Read moreBEST CHEAP EATS SYDNEY!!! Genuinely I’m amazed at the cheap price and the very fresh food they serve here. No wonder people queue up here for dinner. This restaurant serves incredible value, super generous servings and authentic Japanese fast food.
Gyudon had a super generous serving of beef for only $11.90. Ramen soup was light but hearty, definitely fresh.
My pet peeve is when a Japanese restaurant has food served by non-Japanese chefs. Oiden with their friendly Japanese staff & chefs serve great, fast and super fresh food for very cheap prices.
Highly recommend this place if you’re a student on a budget or just looking for a good and quick meal.
Didn’t get a photo of the food because we ate it so quickly (was delicious) but my receipt shows, 2 very full people had a meal for $28.80. Crazy, the sides are fresh and delicious too and for only $1.20 I’m genuinely amazed. So hard to find nowadays.
If you’re in Burwood and looking for Japanese meal, don’t bother with the others (poor service or not made by...
Read moreTried first time (6th December 2023) and somehow, felt uneasy as we arrived.. Front counter the Japanese guy there provided good service and he was polite and very well mannered. The atmosphere provided comfortable dining. Very spacious but very little amount of tables. Food wise was average Regular is actually small size. Not regular Large size is medium And the mega size bowl is large. Abit pricey for the portions they give. Been to better Japanese restaurants. I had the eel don, my dad had chicken katsu don, and my mum had the gyu beef don. Totally regret it and should've ordered an Udon instead. Other Japanese restaurants that serve Bento 🍱 is much more worth it with value and flavour. If you don't want small portions, and want to fill your tummy, go to the Rickshaw on the opposite side and order a laksa. That's more filling. And cheaper in price with...
