As a local, I have been to Rumilicious a few times in the past, mainly for dinner, and have enjoyed the food and service. While neither are particularly rave worthy, I’d never had a negative experience there until recently when I was getting breakfast with my cousin. Regardless, it was definitely enough to make me never want to go back.
I ordered the hash brown stack (menu pictured below), expecting some delicious Persian inspired handmade hash browns. Imagine my surprise then when the server brought out a plate with only TWO of the 50c frozen hashes from Coles (also pictured). Realistically not enough to even be considered a full meal, the other elements of the dish didn’t make up for it at all. The baby spinach was just a handful of bland leaves and the serve of hollandaise was meagre. Although I was feeling a bit cheated out of some cash and was already thinking about what I was going to have to cook myself once I got home, this on its own wasn’t terrible because I figured the staff would be responsive to some polite remarks.
When I talked to the server (an older portly man), however, I was met with absolute dismissal and an extremely patronising tone. I explained in approximately these words that the meal wasn’t what I had been expecting and that I thought its size didn’t justify its cost. He was immediately defensive, saying ‘That’s just how we do it here’, ‘what do you want me to do about it’ and ‘you can order something else if you want but I’m not taking it back’ (not that I had even asked him to), all in a very hostile tone. I also work in the service industry so was trying to be respectful and understand you can’t make every customer happy, but I was shocked by how aggressively he protected this meal that was less than the size of my fist. He embarrassed me in front of my cousin, who also tried to say something with the same response, and afterwards I couldn’t even eat the food. In reality I felt an apology was in order and if I had been them I certainly would have replaced my meal with another or even just offered to add a couple of hash browns (which would have cost $1). He couldn’t be reasoned with at all and demonstrated a complete lake of respect that infuriated me when I had only be marginally upset before.
In short, there is absolutely appalling customer service at Rumilicous. Do not go there expecting a satisfying meal or good staff, cafe Morso is further along the pier with nicer views and MUCH...

What to say?
I don’t often write a bad review on Google because I generally want to reward good behaviour rather than punish bad ones….
But I must say that I had a poor food experience here (worth 1 star, but view and service were fine which saves it to 3 stars…
So anyway, as mentionned, the view is great, the sun is shining on the outside table after lunch time and this gives a lovely light. Service was fast and efficient. Coffee was good
But the food was terrible and expensive. I ordered a gyros (greek pita rolled with lamb salad etc) The lamb was NOT lamb rump or leg like you would expect but this sort of artificial mix of whatever, like the “beef” kebabs you find in george street at 2am. You know, the greasy meat product that doesn’t feel or taste like beef at all and that you burp for 3h afterwards
Anyway, the roll looked huge but was mostly a dried up pita bread filled with lots of air, a bit of salad and above mentionned lamb product, some trace of tzatziki yoghurt sauce, and a few dried up fries on top. All that for $23 or so.
I can get a 10 times better gyros in Bexley or anywhere for half the price (ok, the view is not the same)
The food other customers had looked good from a distance (and so did mine, so I can’t really judge.
If I come back and have a better experience, I’ll change my review. Until then you only get...
Read morePS: After posting my review, I went through other 1-star reviews and realised that many other people have encountered the same dodgy overpricing experience. Avoid this cafe at all cost. I visited this cafe on Sat afternoon (18 May) and unfortunately, my experience was far from pleasant. Firstly, my total bill came to $63, but I was asked to pay $76. When I inquired about the discrepancy and requested an itemised receipt, the lady at the counter informed me that their system was not working because of bad weather (???).
To add to my frustration, when I cross-checked the prices with the menu, I found several inconsistencies. For example, the menu clearly listed the gozleme at $23, yet she insisted it was actually $25. This lack of consistency in pricing felt like a deliberate attempt to overcharge customers.
After pointing out these errors, she finally refunded me $13 but did so without any apology. I highly recommend you double-check your bill before paying if you decide to visit this cafe. Until they address these serious issues with their billing and customer service, I would advise others to...
