Been coming to Sal’s for literal months now. My gf and I are regulars at this point. Today we craved Sal’s and travelled more than an hour all the way from Parramatta just to get that Queen’s meal. The google page said it’d be closed at 10. We ran to catch buses and trains- switched trains like 3 times and finally were at Sal’s 20 minutes before closing time. Saw Evelyn as well and she greeted us warmly. They made us wait a good 5 minutes and then the blonde girl came over to take our order. Before I could even finish the word “Queen’s meal” she refused service. Said that we’re closing in 5 minutes. Mind you we still had 14 to 15 minutes left. Now if I were new I would’ve understood but since we’ve been here before I know that even in rush hours we get served under 10 minutes. It was a simple cheese pizza- the garlic knots were sitting in front of us. She then proceeded to offer us the leftover soggy pizza sitting at the display for god knows how long. This was an extremely frustrating experience and very disappointing. We didn’t eat anything all day and now we were refused service to the place we spend an hour to get to and mind you by this time everything else also closes so now we’re going home hungry. I hope no one else gets to experience this. My question is that if you guys aren’t gonna serve us 15 minutes before 10 then why would you place your closing time at 10 on google and your websites? Why not just mention that we won’t be taking order after 9:45 and save us some...
Read moreIt is actually hard to find a New York Pizza in Sydney, however during my lunch break and finally found a place that does it. I walked past a hidden gem at Wynyard called Sal’s Authentic New York sliced pizza during my lunch break and ordered a few pizza’s to try out
More importantly let me talk about the food:
The pepperoni pizza, the dough and base was nice and thin and I like the fact that the combinations of red sauce was kept at a minimal creating a good balance of flavour complimenting the pepperoni.
The cheese pizza was pretty much stock standard with simplicity at its best.
The garlic knots was subpar and needed more flavour, I had to add the marinara sauce and if you need to add sauce to a side dish then you already know what I was thinking at the time (side dishes are insignificant, as you come for the pizza).
Here’s a quick tip: if possible dine in as the pizza is best enjoyed straight out of the oven. Avoid taking it back to the office unless you’re a fan of cold pizza.
In conclusion I had a positive experience and the pizza I had here reminds me of a place that closed down a few years ago called Frankie’s Pizza. As a pizza enthusiast I would definitely come back with my foodie friends.

Read moreThis places make a decent cheese pizza slice. But to be honest, it doesn’t quite hit home to me the way good cheese pizza slices in New York do, and nor did I expect it to, because Sydney is in desperate need of better quality pizzas. The flavour on pizza I had was good, but not quite how I fondly think the best pizza in its home city can be.
I ordered an actual pizza (Half/half is an option), not a slice to go, and it came out quite quickly during weekday lunch hours. My main interest was in their simple cheese pizza slice. The base was decent, the tomato base had flavour you can taste (a good thing, many pizzas in Sydney have little flavour in the sauce base). The cheese tastes good, and it’s nicely cooked — not burnt too much (let’s avoid the extra carcinogens please).
5 stars because based on Sydney standards for pizza, this is a good pizza. But I’d give their cheese pizza 7.5/10 overall. It’s a solid slice.
Their whole pizzas are a bit more on the expensive side, but the sizes of their pizzas also tend to be a bit bigger. It’s a...
