Italian place that has the food court vibe rather than a restaurant, with lively and hip ambience.
The biggest issue I have about this place, and something you should be fully aware of, is that you need to be prepared to spend at least 30-40 minutes either queuing up to get food or walk around to get your drinks. There is no table service here, so you need to walk up to the kitchen to order and receive your food. Ordering the pizza is fine because you simply order, get a buzzer and go back to your seat until the food is ready. Where it falls apart is the pasta queue, where there are 4-5 chefs cooking each individual pasta in front of you, meaning you are not only waiting for people to order their food but also for all of their food to be ready, and you will be standing in the queue the whole time. When I eventually got to the chef after good half an hour, the experience was refreshing because you could chat with your chef and customise what would go into your dish (spice, etc). However this is a real problem if you came to this place expecting to have a chat with people you came to the restaurant with, because you won't see them again until about an hour later after entering the restaurant together.
Food quality was impressive, almost so that it might just be worth the time queuing up. They served folded pizza which was interesting and tasty. I thought the dough was done particularly well - elastic and has depth to flavour. We've had pesto tagliatelle too, which was done with perfect balance of herbs, oil and great pan-work.
Drink choices felt rather limited although they stocked interesting stuff. There seemed to be no beer on tap which was disappointing. They did have pretty good range of bottled ales including some craft beer. The wine list was decent, kept to basics, but nice basics - mostly from Australia and New Zealand. You will need to self serve again, by going to the bar to grab your drinks.
Overall it was one of the freshest experience I have had for a good while due to different system of getting your food, and we left the place happy and full, but just lower your expectation about any service you might get from here. The message is clear, you are coming here...
Read moreGreat shop layout and design! As you eat your way to heaven, the ambience in the room helps keep you comfortable and engaged. The precise location of the restaurant is perfect. Located in the centre of the Sydney CBD, this restaurant is a must for tourists and food lovers! There is lots of dining space with two floors and the food is amazing! I LOVE this place for Italian food. First of all, they offer you a card for loading up orders ready for checkout which is very convenient. Although there might be a 5-10 minute wait, the food is definitely worth it. The restaurant offers a variety of pasta shape choices and have a great selection of pizzas! The shop has two ‘mini kitchens’, the first is for pizzas leaving the second for pasta. The bread the restaurant offers is as soft as a cloud and i have easily been here more than i can count on my fingers and toes! The restaurant is a favourite for vegans, vegetarians and non-vegetarians with the menu featuring a large variety of dishes within both pizza and pasta fields. The restaurant has great friendly staff that are ready to serve every desire. The addition of a ‘buzzer’ helps keep customers aware of when their food is ready. When their order is ready, a buzzer vibrates with lights and sound to signal the customer when to pick up their order (When the buzzer rings, so does my heart!). Every table also offers fresh, edible thyme and basil plants that can be eaten on the spot! In addition to that, nature has definitely been incorporated throughout the restaurant with a large tree in the middle of the common area on the first floor. The food is also affordable which is a great addition in the city! I DEFINITELY recommend visiting this restaurant for the delicious and unique food! This restaurant has without doubt made it into my favourite...
Read moreI was there few hours ago. I suggested this as I have been to Vapiano in two different countries I thought I knew what to expect clearly not, I can understand that the staffs were busy no one was idle they were running from tables to tables. But it is difficult to understand that Vapiano at King street wasn’t ready for it. While in the que we were told the food waiting time is min 35min we agreed even though there were empty tables. The waiting staff was lovely but they didn’t know how to get things done in an organized fashion everyone of them were busy but the tables were not provided with the basic side plates, napkins nor cutlery ( we asked for it) Trio of dip was plain bread not the special Italian bread that is served in other vapiano. The Hawaiian pizza has less than 8 pcs of pineapple I was too famished to even take a pic. Our drinks didn’t arrive ( order was done through QR) so I took the initiative to go n ask the bartender if there was an order for our table. No apologies no Courtesy at the least I was told I will bring to your table(phew at this point I was worried I will have to make my own drink). Since the drinks arrived late my partner who was supposed to drive couldn’t drink. By 9:40 pm the kitchen ran out of bread and few other items the staff made sure the guests are aware of it as they were not discreet while talking to each other “ we r out of ——— n they are still sending in people” (that’s how I know). Than came the Pomodoro which ruined our evening and we left without finishing our foods drinks. The sauce was made runny, the spaghetti was like noodles had some funny taste had no taste at all. My partner labeled it the worst pasta of his life.
Location is fantastic I can’t tell the same about...
