One of the best coffee roasters in Australia. I have tried many specialty coffee roasters over the years, and I can safely say that no one comes close to the complete experience Sample Coffee offers.
Coffee - Brew Crew Subscription. Their omni-roasted beans from the brew crew subscription has been a perfect fit for me. For someone who alternates between doing a V60 Filter and also doing Espresso, this is a huge bonus having beans / roast that can do both without me buying two separate beans for the use cases.
The quality of the beans and flavour profile of the coffee it produces is also great. I've had many great comments from friends and family when I make them a cup.
Subscription - Their subscription service and functionality on the website is also one of the best I've used. It's simple and straight forward in setting up the subscription. It's also super useful that I can change my delivery dates if I need more beans, or if I need to delay deliveries because I'm not using them as quick as I anticipated. It's all done via the simple UI on the website, with a few clicks.
It's also quite fun receiving a new coffee every time with their Brew Crew subscription, because I never know what I end up with but it's always a fun surprise.
Packaging - The packaging has been one of the most impressive things, and things that really make them stand out in the industry. Their gorgeous packaging always makes me excited to receive my order. From their personalised stickers to their sustainable box that has useful / interesting things printed (i.e. brew guides, coffee regions, etc), to the personalised notes they add. It really makes for a pleasant experience receiving...

Surry Hills is a tough place to set up a successful cafe if for no other reason than there are so many options already available, but these guys have done just that. More so, they have taken the education of coffee drinkers seriously, evidenced by everything from their name, the rotating showcase espressos and filter coffees, and the occasional "black Saturday" event that focuses on the flavors and aromas of black coffee.
Today I started off with a filter coffee from Honduras (Cerro Azul) that was roasted here in the cafe to ensure the lighter flavors and aromas have a better chance of being espressed. While advertised as a spiced fruit cake, I got more sultana and less spice than I expected. Certainly needed to wait for it to cool down before I got much though.
I then tried the 'showcase espresso' which was a Colombian single origin from the El Denisio farm, again roasted in house, that really performed well. With a touch of peach in the aroma and a jammy body, the slight brightness in the middle and a clean finish, this was a delicious coffee.
So while there is a wide range of cafes in Surry Hills, this one is a cafe I'd happily recommend to anyone looking for a coffee experience.

Read moreTheir coffee is good but cup size is laughable. You need to buy a second coffee elsewhere because you are finished your large in 2 seconds. For $4.70 you expect a normal large size - pls fix it peeps. Also, I bought a granola or yoghurt cup for $8, 9 or $10 bucks (can’t remember) cause I needed something quick for breakfast. It was a really bad little cup that I had to get toast down the road 2 seconds later. If it wasn’t for these gripes this place has potential.
Edit: this review is a year old but I was responding to the owner, but when I did it deleted the comment, so keep that in mind. Hopefully they have added a proper breakfast option by now? Would not count on the larger cup... since posting a year ago I’ve spent $10 a day at other local coffee shops ($3,650pa roughly), which I am sure spread amongst extra return customers would justify the expense of a proper large...
