Disappointing experience and will not be back again. Better Japanese elsewhere. Food: nothing special. Udon noodles soggy. Passable and came out relatively quickly. On the higher end of price but expected for CBD Ultimo.
Service: seemingly ok until the end - where they proved to be rude and unhelpful. A table was booked for a celebration. A cake was given to the staff to hold in the fridge. After the meal, we requested the cake to be brought out to be served, to a waitress in a black shirt - and received a look of confusion but she nodded. She then came out and shoved the cake (still in the box) towards us (causing it to be damaged in the box itself) and look even further confused when we asked again that we wanted to have the cake at the table.
She didn’t bother cleaning the table, as she gave out bowls and forks and then left us again. A knife for cutting had to be requested again from the same waitress and she said that they didn’t have any knives (???). Only afterwards did the other waitress in the green shirt offer us a butter knife a few minutes later (proving that they DID have knives in a restaurant).
After the cake was eaten and the table semi-cleaned by ourselves with literally only our bowls/forks (restaurant-provided) and the cake box left, we went to the front to give a cash tip (literally in our hands) because we understood that it was an extra service re cake and we had a baby with us as well - only for that same black shirt waitress to tell us to TAKE OUR CAKE BOX AND RUBBISH WITH US.
Looking at past reviews, service has been a consistent downfall of this place that they haven’t bothered to rectify so they obviously don’t care about customer service. Needless to say, we did not give the tip in the end, and find it hard to ever recommend coming here, especially compared to all the other restaurants available that visibly put in...
Read moreThis is going to be one of the top bang-for-buck Japanese restaurants for me that are reachable by the metro.
Katsu curry rice is my go-to meal in Japanese cuisines and their chicken katsu (torikatsu) curry rice has a big portion for $20. The chicken pieces are juicy, they are seasoned right so you can even enjoy them without dipping in the curry. One can easily ask for another portion of rice for the curry and chicken in the dish.
The curry is on the runnier side of the texture of a curry and the spice level is on the mild end. I’m not sure if you can make them increase the spiciness of it but there are condiments available to make it spicier yourself.
Their curry has that signature Japanese curry taste, similar to those curry roux you can buy in Japanese marts. I like the flavour of theirs because it does not overpower the juiciness and taste of the chicken. Overall, it is a good dish to order.
I ordered with side of gyoza. Paired with the dipping, it’s a good flavour to enjoy.
The price is friendly for the servings they give you. You can walk out of the restaurant really full with around $20-30.
You also get 5% discounts by paying cash so a trip to the ATM to get some cash can save you...
Read moreI wish we had taken a photo before eating but we waited too long that we forgot I don’t know how this place has such high ratings The curry was just plain sauce with nothing else in it and few randomly sliced homemade quality gatsu The rolls wasn’t really worth the money either The udon was okay And they served us the sake so early, it went all cold before any food came
Nonetheless, the worst part was how they manage the place I hate when Korean-owned restaurants do this The place was jam packed and there was only one person on the floor flying everywhere when it was so obvious there should be at least two people waiting I felt so bad for the waitress She was very sweet but that didn’t help at all with the quality of service and food
Overall a complete disappointment Totally not worth the price and would never come back again We thought the place was an authentic Japanese dining (from the cute appearance) but it was just another poorly managed Kor-owned...
