Chinese dumplings are plentiful in the promised land that is Burwood, but many I've asked have pointed me in the direction of Sydney Dumpling King as their top pick! The problem with Burwood though is that there are way too many good restaurants beckoning for you to eat at. After several years of having this place on my hitlist, i finally made it here for lunch! The dumplings here are done well, and are very affordable. 15 dumplings will set you back anywhere between $16-19. Add an extra $3 if you want it fried. The cool part is you can order two different types of fillings in one serving if you like - something I wish I knew before I ordered! They have some rather interesting filling options here like pork with eggplant or fish with sweet corn. It's hard to look past the classic pork with chive and beef with chive on your first visit to a dumpling restaurant though... "One boiled and one fried please!" We also took on an order of soup dumplings (xiao long bao) and some pan-fried pork buns too. They have a house-made chilli oil on every table that you can add to your dipping sauce. The dumplings themselves were really good. The fillings were flavourful, meaty, and the skin was of a medium thickness, a nice soft bite to them. I definitely think the fried dumplings and the xiao long bao were the best orders of the day. I probably wouldn't order the pan-fried pork buns again though. I felt like the fillings in these didn't have as much of a pork meat taste compared to the dumplings. I wouldn't say it's my absolute favourite dumpling spot in Sydney, but the dumplings are certainly up there with the better ones! Would happily come back to try other fillings. 📍 Sydney Dumpling...

We went to this place for a simple lunch today at around1.20pm, waited for over 40 minutes, very disappointed with empty stomach. we ordered 2 x pork and cabbage dumplings, and waited for over 20 minutes, and when we finally get the dumpling on the table, it has the wrong filling which one person can't eat it, so straight way we told the waitress it was a wrong order, and she took the dumpling away. After that, we sit there, just to watch other tables receiving their dumplings and dishes. 10 minutes later, we approached the waitress, and ask where is our replacement order, and why some table come after us has got their dumpling, she says because she put in wrong orders for us, so our replacement order will be placed after all other customer's order... and she says within 2 minutes, our dish will come out. By the time of 2pm, we still haven't received our dish, we were so starving, decided to leave. What a bad customer service, instead of make up for their mistake quickly, they simply put us on the end of waiting list. We were so disappointed with this place. Regarding the dumpling we tried with the wrong fillings, the size is much smaller than usual Chinese dumpling, and the skin is thick, and inside of the skin is still raw. it...

Sydney Dumpling King is a wonderful place to stop for lunch, offering a delightful dining experience. With an extensive menu featuring a wide variety of options, from fresh seafood to hearty noodle soups, there's something for everyone. Vegetarians will also be pleased with the range of delicious plant-based choices available. While their dumplings are a standout, they offer much more than just dumplings – the food is incredibly tasty, well-prepared, and satisfying.

The restaurant itself is clean, bright, and inviting, with air conditioning to ensure a comfortable meal. The staff is both polite and helpful, making the overall experience even more enjoyable. With around 20 tables for groups of four and a few smaller two-seat options, the seating arrangement is well thought out to accommodate different group sizes.

I had the pleasure of stopping by Sydney Dumpling King while passing through Burwood, and I'm so glad I did. The price is very reasonable, making it an excellent value for the quality and quantity of food you receive. My lunch experience was a success, and I can confidently say that Sydney Dumpling King is a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a satisfying, delicious, and affordable meal. 3.8, Down from 4.4 - Hot & Sour soup is better than last time and certainly comforting in this cold winter weather. I had a small COCKROACH 🪳 🪳 🪳 join me at lunch though (I read this on one other review too). I didn't say anything to the staff because I guess wherever is food, there are cockroaches and I only saw it on my table after I finished the food but I left quickly after and tried to squish it with the tissue box. (It was crawling way too close!) *** Came by and tried the Hot & Sour soup again but they have changed the recipe to be more peppery and I didn't enjoy it. However, loved the Fish & Coriander Dumplings - the sweetness of the fish was delish! ***** 4.6 - I love coming here because there is supposedly no Msg or preservatives in their food. The Hot & Sour soup is perfect and features authentic ingredients, and I love the Prawn, Egg, Black Fungus Dumplings. I've also tried the Pork & Chinese Cabbage Dumplings and the Jellyfish Salad. I once tried some of the dumplings in a fish soup but found it disappointingly peppery. Service is inconsistent - sometimes friendly, other times not. Popular down to earth restaurant.
