Great suprisingly large dog friendly pub, minutes walk from Redfern or Central station. FOOD: Great selection of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free (they can't guarantee coeliac safety) food. Think typical pub food: burgers, steaks, salads etc. They arrived pretty quickly, considering how busy this place gets late at night. STAFF: Really down to earth, efficient and friendly. AMBIENCE: Think grungy, colourful artsy (not modern fresh homogenous) locals pub with great artistically designed spaces. Be warned, expect stairs. There are outdoor and indoor spaces both upstairs and on ground floor. It's got a great friendly feel with locals bringing their dogs and it attracting both a young and older age demographic. They hire out rooms/areas to bands, for exhibits etc so there's always stuff on. ACCESSIBILITY: Side street parking limited, not really wheelchair friendly with 1-2 stairs and smaller toilets etc, however you could just sit outside if you have large prams/walkers/wheelchairs. OVERALL: Recommend and...
Read moreIncompetent security, which unfortunately ruins this otherwise awesome venue. Edit: Hi admin, I can definitely give you more context. Two different mates of mine have been kicked out of the venue on separate occasions with essentially no explanation from the security staff. Both on dnb nights. Nobody was being aggressive or weird, on one of the occasions she was literally just sitting down on the outside tables and the security asked her to leave. We asked why and he just said she had to go. She wasn’t sleeping or anything. I can understand that sometimes security needs to act but it’s hard to take them seriously when they don’t give any explanation and seemingly nothing was happening that warranted it. If the security could be trained to be more open and communicate, and not make snap decisions based on a whim, then it would be better for everyone involved. The security is the sole reason I have not been back...
Read moreWhat a nice pub. The staff (including the management) are super friendly and always helpful. Whether it be a beer recommendation, a wifi password or efficient service on a busy evening nothing seems to be a drama for them. Quite a contract to the self proclaimed locals pup around the corner, The Chippendale Hotel, which has all the atmosphere of a high school library. The good vibes at The Gladstone are mirrored by friendly and talkative punters....what I like about this pub is you can rock up by yourself and be deep in conversation with randoms within 10 minutes. The customers are an eclectic mix of students, local workers and residents. Throw in a considerable percentage of foreign languages/accents to complete the demographic. The food is good, nachos from behind the bar, $10 tacos and daily specials. It's just pub food but it's good pub food. I look forward to being in Chippendale so i can spend some...
