This is a little cafe that unfortunately didn't tick all the boxes during my particular visit. Fell a bit short of what I was expecting.
They were experiencing a busy lunch service - which is great to see in the current economic climate. A younger lady was an absolute dynamo out front, taking and serving orders whilst making drinks - occasionally energetically exchanging verbally with the kitchen in what sounded like a southern Vietnamese dialect. The older, animated gentleman in the kitchen appeared rather stressed.
Two favourite dishes of mine in Vietnamese cuisine are Phở Bò and Bánh Mì - and it's hard to find great examples in Queensland outside of Inala or Darra. This joint serves both options. As the former is quite tricky to eat on the run, I opted for the latter. No option for thịt nguội or chả lụa that was somewhat disappointing - so I ordered the lemongrass pork variant on offer.
Service was fairly quick given the lunch time rush going on. I opted to take it away and eat at Queens Park.
The bread was solid. Nice texture. The filling left some voids. No pickled daikon and the tiniest amount of coriander present. The pork was hot on the outside and cold on the inside (likely reheated). Not the best example of pâté either - vague in flavour and texture. Pork could have been caramelised more.
Service was amazing and efficient. Unfortunately the food was just OK. Perhaps I caught them...
Read moreWe made our first visit to Junktion Coffee House to have some lunch, arriving late morning on a Saturday. There were still several tables available (seating is available indoors and outside), so we found a spot and planned our order.
Service was friendly and helpful, with both a young boy and older lady (mum and son, perhaps) providing satisfactory assistance. They were more than happy to accommodate our request to dine-in but also include a takeaway component to be eaten later. Even better, they waited until we were close to leaving to prepare the rest of the order, ensuring it didn't sit at our feet for 30 minutes before departure.
Our meals, comprising of Pho (1 x chicken and 1 x beef), a Crispy Pork Bahn Mi, and two Bao buns (1 x Crispy Pork and 1 x Lemongrass Chicken) were all excellent. Everything offered great flavour, the helpings of meat were substantial, and it was all hot and fresh. Some more coriander in the Pho would have been awesome, but that's a small observation and purely personal preference.
Lastly, but importantly, prices were reasonable and aligned with those we regularly pay around Brisbane.
Overall, Junktion Coffee House was a winner, with service and food all ticking the boxes. We left satisfied and are sure to...
Read moreMy wife said she wanted to eat pho, so I bought Vietnamese pho, and it turned out to be the best pho in Toowoomba. I should have taken a picture first, but we ate it so deliciously and messily that I couldn't take a photo. I wanted to at least post a picture of the empty bowls, but the table was too messy, so I gave up on taking a picture. When we buy pho from other places in Toowoomba, the broth is often too salty, and we leave most of it. However, when you taste the broth from this place, you can tell the quality of the food and the owner's dedication. I'm someone who dislikes the smell of old meat. It's difficult to cook and sell all the meat fresh every day, so there might be some meat with a slight odor. However, after trying four dishes from this place, I realized that all the food contains the owner's incredible dedication. If you want to eat Vietnamese food, come here. This is the best Vietnamese restaurant in Toowoomba. Some people might not like the food. However, one thing is certain: the food here is fresh, and the owner puts an enormous amount of time and effort into making it. If anyone has been disappointed with the food here, I recommend giving it...
