First time visit to Mt Buller and the price tag to a lot of things is expensive, maybe because many of these businesses operate only operate during 3 months of the year of snowfall. Up the stairs to the sale yards and ski lifts lies Cattleman's Cafe which I decided to check out what they serve there. They mainly serve toasties, pannini, bread rolls and the like. I chose the special of the day, toastie with mayo, silverside, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard. Order at the bar and take a table number and find a free spot. The staff are nice and there is a service element here which is nice to experience. Within a jiffy the toastie is served. When you're hungry things can taste a lot better but this toastie is delicious, a lovely mix of ingredients to contrast against each other. Sauerkraut counteracts the meatiness of the silverside, slight acidity from the pickles against the Swiss cheese, American mustard for that tang, mayo for a bit of richness. Certainly hit the spot but like a lot of things at Mt Buller, also the hip pocket ($18).

Overpriced & really clinical atmosphere & staff demeanour. I'm assuming management has trained them to walk around with their arms held behind their backs and it's genuinely perplexing & robotic. I'm also wondering why staff working in sub zero temperatures are forced to wear these overly formal (& thin) dress shirts??? It's casual dining at best & the poor things look ridiculous. They're serving Coffee and Coronas- not $300 bottles of wine. Every time I come in I feel like asking the staff if they're okay & warm enough. Cattlemans= go for the weird atmosphere & $16 sandwiches. Stay to wince at the poor employees lack of warm attire. Photo for reference of the dry and embarrassingly measly amount of saukeraut. This sandwich is worth $6 at best including cost of ingredients and labour... Who runs this kitchen??

This is a hard cafe to review. But after reading other people’s comments I have realised there is a trend that has lasted multiple seasons. I have never witnessed an owner treat staff in such a horrible manner, but it doesn’t stop there, he talks down to customers like cattle even though they’re there and prepared to pay above airport pricing for his food and drinks. The only reason I have given a middle 3/5 star rating is because the staff who endure this owners bull #### day in day out offer a lovely and friendly service and the several coffees they made me over a few days were all delicious. If I worked here I would be looking for another job, if I was a potential customer I would eat somewhere else..

Rude staff… I went for a coffee and a drink and my gf had food from other side but she didn’t intend to eat it inside and then when I wanted to order my drinks the staff received me with a big rude and loud “she can’t eat that chicken here”… Come on, you can’t react like that without a reasonable motive. I felt embarrassed in front of the people.

Edit Due to your response to my review:

That response to my review was totally unprofessional. You "get people angry when they didn't get away with what they want"—That's nonsense, not to say rub**. What did I want??? Just to have a drink and my girlfriend to have a coffee. You, with your terrible service, assumed we were going to eat an entire chicken at 10 in the morning with coffee. Do you need customer service classes? They’re not expensive, I recommend them. You don’t attack a customer for something they haven’t done. The mere act of “reminding” them of something they haven’t done and have no intention of doing is an attack. From the moment we entered the place, it was clear from your faces that you were worried, as if we were some sort of weird creatures. The food was in its packaging and completely sealed. It’s not like we brought it in containers, opened it, and started eating. Your logic of "reminding" is as absurd as walking down the street and telling someone "I remind you that you can’t steal" out of nowhere. Just look at your 2.3 stars with 169 reviews to see the kind of experience you offer. Learn to respond with your head and not your heart. You let your emotions take over when responding to...

We were treated badly at Mount Buller Cattlemans cafe by white male owner. My 1st time visitors to Melbourne, my family friend and my children felt bad and discriminated by white male owner of Cattlemans cafe, we were asked to leave the cafe without finishing our drinks. 12May2017 around 3:45pm we all when to buy hot chocolate at cattlemans cafe, while waiting for our children to finish their drinks my Pilipino friend put his head on the table to rest suddenly this white owner yelled at him infront of other customers no sleeping or you have to get out. I told the white male owner he is not sleeping just resting while waiting for our children then for no reason he told me to leave as well. He said "I own this place and have the right to choose who could stay and who could leave", I told this guy we will all leave after our children finish their drinks, he insisted that we should all go out now or he will call the police and walk away raising his arm to me with a dirty F* finger. Around 3:58pm we are all out of his cafe ready to go home suddenly a woman came out with an angry voice tone telling us "we have a no sleeping policy" or you have to deal with the police then closed the cafe door and hang the close sign at the door. Is this the kind of treatment we get as Asian from white owner of cattlemans cafe at Mouth Buller? Our happy family experience at Mount Buller turns to be an upsetting and discriminating experience. Cattlemans Cafe not...
