Update: I want to clarify that I did not think the waitress was rude. She was very polite in her manner and I had no issue with her. I am simply pointing out that I did not receive an apology for the error from anyone. And I still haven’t. I wholeheartedly agree that we all make mistakes, and should be given the space to learn. But we should also at least apologise when a mistake is made, especially to a customer. This is basic customer service. Again, my issue is not with the waitress, if she was new then the responsibility falls on more experienced staff to deal with the situation appropriately. I do not feel the situation was dealt with appropriately; I was made to feel like I was trying to rip off the business instead of simply clarifying how my meal was calculated. I never once said I did not want to pay for my meal, it appeared I was being asked to pay for more than I had ordered, hence my attempt to clarify. Once it was apparent that the way I had interpreted the menu was different to what the owner had intended, I was again made to feel it was my fault for interpreting it this way. Especially after I had asked specifically for just $4 of fruit. If the owner does not feel like she would do anything differently next time, that’s up to her. But this was my experience and feedback. If the waitress found the interaction with me upsetting, I do sincerely apologise as this was not my intention. I just would appreciate no further insinuations that I was trying to get out of paying for my meal, or that I have a problem with young staff making mistakes. Such insinuations are not true, and completely miss the point of why I am upset.
I have shortened my original review below to allow room for this update:
unfortunate experience here this morning ordered a build your own pancake with a serve of fresh fruit, ice cream and maple syrup. The menu stated ($5) pancake, ($4) per serve of fresh fruit, ($4) for the ice cream and ($3) for the syrup. waitress offered blueberries, strawberries, banana and lemon for the fruit I said any any were fine the amount on the register had increased so I asked why I had been charged $3 for banana, $6 for blueberries and strawberries and $2 for lemon I pointed out that this is different from the menu but waitress was confused I asked for whatever fruit I could have for the $4 serve indicated on the menu waitress nodded and I understood this had been updated waitress came to table and said she forgot to charge me for a pancake, she did not apologise for the error she insisted I come up and pay for this pancake I was confused because based on the price I had paid, it appeared I had paid for the pancake I went through the price with her and she was not able to explain this waitress showed me the order sheet which said pancake followed by the toppings I said this was not explaining the situation cafe owner came out and, instead of apologising for the error again showed me the order slip when I remain confused and showed my calculations which indicated the pancake was paid for, she got the itemised receipt the receipt showed I had been charged more for the fruit and this was why the confusion. owner said loudly that she could not just give me a free pancake, a phrase she repeated, apparently to try and embarrass me. I explained I was not wanting a free pancake, I was under the impression that based on what I had paid, the pancake was already paid for. I decided I no longer wished to stay and requested a refund. the owner said in a raised voice ‘I need to appreciate she hires kids and you need to be more understanding.’ I said I appreciated she hires kids but the kids were not the issue. I stated that if this is the case with the fruit, it needs to be stated more clearly on the menu her reply was that she’s never had this issue before I walked away feeling shaken over what should have been a quick apology, clarification of the bill, and because the menu is not clear, an offer...

We ordered the bacon and cheese burgers, with a regular chips on the side. We also ordered a Billson’s creamy soda. All together was $42. We initially ordered the wedges but were told they didn’t have any. A bit disappointing at 1:00pm.
The burger and chips were very nice. The patty was juicy and flavoursome. The chips were cooked well but arrived without salt. However, salt and pepper were available on the table. We asked for tomato sauce and received a small sachet, the one you usually receive with a sausage roll at a bakery. We were hoping for a bit more than that.
The service was fine. Seating was adequate, not a heap of seating. The safer option would be calling up and reserving a table rather than walking in. The indoor area was clean and cosy. QR code ordering was available.
Nothing on the menu stands out or differentiates from competitors. The only thing that may stand out for some is the roast rolls. However, we’re not huge fans of roasts. We probably wouldn’t return if we were to visit Beechworth again...

Then I was served a big breakfast, looked ok until I reliased I could have eaten it with a spoon, I seriously think everything was steamed! From the tasteless eggs, tasteless bacon, wet bread, swimming mushrooms and not a drop of butter or hope was used in the making of this disaster they called breakfast.
Uncooked spinach and tomatoes which I genuinely believe are warmed up in the microwave! I was so hungry and still couldn't bring myself to eat less than half.
Then believe it or not I asked for a bathroom so I could purge the sin they called breakfast. FIRST OR FIFTH? Mistake! Unsure at this point. I was informed they don't have one and had to walk down the road and use a public toilet.
Battling the cold with guts full of sin and my first coffee of the day, I briskly walked to sit on a public frozen toilet which other men had clearly left there mark, there I sat with the miserable ponderance of 'is this day worth it?'
Minimum standards had not been met this...
