I haven’t been in Sawyers Arms since 1985 so needless to say I was truly impressed when I stopped by to see if we could get some lunch to celebrate my nephew’s birthday.
There are not many places that show generous open arms when you are looking for a 2pm weekday lunch - but their team outdid themselves with their service, welcome, food and drinks.
My nephew and I both chose the Beef cheek which was tender and delicious and then we tried the crème brûlée and home made ice-cream with decadent chocolate praline. Excellent coffee and a little fudge treat to go with it - why other places don’t do this post a lovely meal is beyond me - even though I know everything costs.
The waiters were attentive and the room cosy - I noticed a large table of women sitting in front of the fire having the best time and although we got there late in the service there was no rush to have us gone.
An excellent place to celebrate special and usual...
Read moreWent to celebrate hubby's birthday at our local, Sawyers Arms Tavern. Also an excuse to try out the popular eateries since we just moved here not long ago.
The Steak and Rockford Red deal was such good value. The wine part was for 375ml per person, so we ended up with the whole bottle for two. I do love me some Rockford wine from Barossa and they actually brought us beautiful glassware and a decanter.
The steak was really well-cooked, medium rare all the way through, with 2 sides and a sauce to accompany the dish. At $90 for the lot (steak, veg and wine) one can lavish in small indulgences in this tight economy.
The interior felt warm and inviting, esp during winter. There's a bar near the entrance with quite a good range. Will definitely come back to try the tap beers.
As it was a birthday, the staff even indulged my request for a candle on the dessert. Perfect finish with a port in hand!...

The lamb cutlets were a standout—tender and juicy on the inside with a perfectly crunchy crumb on the outside. The Caesar salad was huge and loaded with juicy chicken, flavorful dressing, and just the right amount of salty anchovies. And don’t miss the Saganaki cheese—it’s like indulging in the best crunchy bits from a toasted sandwich. Seriously addictive!
The service here is top-notch, too—friendly, efficient, and genuinely helpful, making the whole experience even better. They’ve also got a surprisingly great wine list for a pub, so there’s something to suit every taste. Whether you’re after a casual meal or a cozy drink, the Sawyer Arms Tavern nails it....
