Edited review* Don't be fooled by the good ratings- this place was once amazing. I know it sounds dramatic but I am so sad to say that the rebranding of Ex Lion Tamer to Nude Foods has completely changed how I feel about this cafe. You will see below my original review and how much I loved this place, it was the best place in all of Bendigo. After today though I don't think I will be returning. We ordered some old favourites to see if anything had changed and a big problem we found across the menu is cheaper ingredients and poorly thought-out changes to already perfected meals. The pork belly breakfast meal was a really obvious change in quality, it is a small portion and lower quality now - such a shame to see the new owners cutting corners on customer favourites. I ordered the spicy chicken burger which is a replacement for the Katsu Bao burger. The chicken thigh was nicely cooked but the decision to coat the chicken in an overwhelming bland chilli powder is a mindblowingly bad choice. It tastes bad. It ruins the whole burger. On top of there being no sauce and such a sad serving of coleslaw - this burger needs work. Also $17 with no serving of chips on the side? The whole experience felt like I was paying the same prices for much lower quality. Thankfully the baristas and the staff are still familiar faces and they can still make a great coffee and serve customers with great service.
Below is my original rave review ------- This place is the best. I would comfortably call it the best cafe in Bendigo AND they are reasonably priced. They don't just sell your typical cafe food, the menu is what I would describe as modern Asian fusion. Go in for the lunch special and get the Chicken Katsu Bao Burger served on a steamed bun and you'll never want to go anywhere else. Its crispy and so soft - makes a wonderful combo. Look at what they did to my bacon and eggs! No greasy overcooked strips, instead you get melt in the mouth pork belly, perfectly poached eggs, crisp insanely tasty hash browns and a fresh apple slaw. Be still my...
Read moreWorst service I have ever experienced by virtue of the fact it is the only time I've experienced surliness with openly aggressive behaviour, it was quiet unsettling, my partner was particularly shaken and was crying after we left. From the point of initial interaction it was obvious this guy (part owner I believe) was not in a good mood. You need to have the self awareness to take yourself off the floor if you're in foul mood. The trigger was to query if an order just made could be changed which drew a snippy 'They would have already made it' without even bothering to check. When we had the temerity to pluck up the courage and say something to one of the other staff members we got an apologetic 'Sorry that happened'....situation diffused...my partner, myself and our 7 month old get ready to leave but no, individual in question then struts up to us without a suggestion of 'sorry was there a misunderstanding here' or something similar to launch into accusational tirade accusing us of saying he was a liar, and that (which now seems comical) 'I'm very good at my job'. This all at an elevated tone drawing the attention of other patrons...very professional. This was a thoroughly distasteful and intimidating experience, initially quiet unsettling I was mad afterwards that I'd accepted it without voicing more disapproval, but you really don't expect this sort of ugly confrontation with your family at breakfast. I foolishly paid the bill and will always be...
Read moreBendigo is known for its good food but stumbling across Nude Food Breakfast Bar by chance had me stunned.
In terms of interior design - the space is clean accompanied by modern, furnishing that have purpose. The choice of colours are perfectly placed to present a vibrant place to eat and socialise.
The menu is extensive, providing both solid sweet and savoury options. The group I was with split our options, some having burgs and chips, others picking the sweet waffles. I must admit all boxes where checked off on both presentation and overall taste. Everything on the plate has purpose and the correct texture combination. The waffles in my opinion can always be a hit or a miss. With so many sweet things happening all at once you can easily miss the mark and it can become quite sickly.
Nude Food know what they are doing. Striking a perfect balance to highlight all elements Sweet or Savoury.
The coffee was heaven. The staff were welcoming, friendly and knew what they were doing.
Price point wise. Nude Food Bar is an overall experience. The price reflects this through both quality produce and taste. If you are looking for a $3 burnt flat white. This might not be for you.
Great work guys! Can't wait...
