If you are looking for a coffee and cake and not much more, this cafe will suit you. The pastry chef is a credit to the cafe, and there are many options for alternative diets. We enjoyed our pistachio tart and hazelnut choc balls, and the pastry chef was able to answer our allergy questions pleasantly.
Even the narrowness of the bakery is manageable, as I have been in much smaller in Melbourne and space does not always mean a better experience.
However, we also ordered eggs on toast, an open Angus burger and scrambled tofu & mushrooms, and each of these options are WELL over priced for what you receive. Dishes are basic and the flavour of the meals didn't put us at ease over how much we had spent on the bill.
The tofu and mushrooms were in an overwhelming gravy that was too salty, and there was nothing else accompanying on the plate to break the flavour and provide some freshness. The poached eggs were simply two eggs on unbuttered toast (with plastic butter tub, because do-it-yourself) and very plain for the $15 or so paid.
You will easily be paying the same amount you would at a reputable cafe in the city such as Top Paddock, or even a specialty vegan/gluten free cafe like Smith & Deli, but without the same level of food satisfaction. I would happily pay for superior country produce, but it is not showcased in the meals we saw, and I venture to suggest they would really benefit from a menu overhaul, judging by the three dishes we received.
That said, if we were in the area again, we would stop once more to try some more cakes, but we won't be busting out the big...
Read moreWe went to this place, because was empty, we didn't have time to wait in the next coffe shop (that one was full), big mistake. We ask for two coffes , no the best we have tried in our life. My boyfriend ask for a vegetarian pie, taste bad. My egg and bacon toasted , no good flavor, for that money $15. Just for all of this, $38. When we were waiting we had been given the meals on a paper plates, paper coffe cups and wood fork and knife (When we were asking to sit in the shop you could see the glass cups on the shelf behind the casher). When we were finishing our food, we look the wall, it said $8 for eat inside and $7 for take away (is not even a delivery service). And at least 8 to 10 people walked in and the door in the 20 min we keep inside the store. So yeah if it was empty was for some reason. Is a miserable service for a ll that money, for a simple breakfast. Tip for you manager: is better use glass products and steel forks than produce more garbage. And find a dish washer...
Read moreCame in with a group of 15+ people, was empty other than us when we came in. They got multiple orders wrong/delayed etc. 1. One of my friends order was a large flat white but received a regular sized drink instead, which wasn't the best testing, so did not bother returning it for a larger version of it. 2. Another friend ordered an Ice Almond milk drink which took a long time to come and when it finally came, the wait staff ( to their credit) honestly told us it was made awhile ago, but due to the background sounds , they did not hear that it was ready and hence wasn't served, the ice seemed partially melted already. 3. The staff initially said the ice chocolate was rich and chocolatey, but the photo was what I received initially- it was bland and hardly had any chocolate flavouring in it. However to their credit they replaced it with a much better ice chocolate after being advised. Honest and courteous staff, but unfortunately the food and beverage requires some...
