Christmas dinner at the Ship Inn
Christmas dinner for me and the family. I'll begin with the service or lack off! Watching the chaos that was the waiters leaving the kitchen with arms full of food to look for a number on a table that was about the size of your thumb nail was quite the spectical!! Watching the waiters floating in between the tables, which seemed to be randomly numbered, and then float straight back into the kitchen was leaving me dumbfounded! 😳 That poor couple who had a table near the bar with everyone lined up next to them! 😂 After a long wait of about 1 and bit hours, or 2 pints of Pirate Life, we were finally asked what we'd like from the set menu. The misses had pear and ricotta tart, and I had the cold meat and cheese plate (wish I'd have gone for the prawn cocktail! 😕) the tart was good, but mine was a little lacking, and I was missing the salad that came with it. This was put right with a word in the waiters ear. Meanwhile people who had arrived up to half an hour later than our good selves were getting their main course. Another pint of Pirate Life later and our mains arrived 😀 The boys got their 4 nuggets and chips, and we got our turkey and ham roast. Well, I use the word turkey very loosely as I was not 100% convinced turkey was served It came in thick slices that had probably been kept warm in an oven drenched in gravy.....sorry I mean jus, or whatever fancy word was used!! The ham was just a gammon steak that you could get from any supermarket! I could go on and on and even on! Dessert was either a fruit pudding that could have broken a window or lemon pudding that was so dry it made me drink more Pirates Life!!!! I really could go on and on and on and on and on!!! Adult $120 x 2 Child $20 x 2 Total $280 For what is meant to be one of your best dinners of the year. Have I had better?...yes I have! Could I do better?....of course, I can and will at the next opportunity! 😊 P.S. No Pig's in blankets No Yorkshire puddings No Brussel sprouts No Parsnips No Cranberry sauce And the icing on the cake ........NO CHRISTMAS CRACKERS!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Ship Inn
It's been a week now, and obviously, with time, I've calmed down a lot! I still stand by my review, but I also recognise and understand the immense pressure every member of your staff was under that day. Christmas dinner is meant to be the best dinner of the year in my eyes, and this being only the 2nd time I've actually had it away from home wasn't great, unfortunately. It was an extremely brave attempt on your part for trying to please everyone! I hope you learn from this experience! I'm sure I'll pay another visit to the Ship Inn one day when we're down in Busselton...
Read moreThis would have been a 5 star review, because I and my little girl had a wonderful time! Straight up we encountered some minor problems. I spoke to the manager Alex Hazewinkel. Wow what a accomodating manager. The minor issues were sorted immediately!! Also made up for the miss hap ten fold. If every licenced venue had a manager like this I’m sure they’d thrive! If this review was about Alex only it would be ten STARS… also I think another staff member deserves a great review as well. Her name is Silvia, wow so professional, polite and welcoming. Thank you Silvia you were GREAT! Unfortunately there was a very bad taste after everything left in my mouth. Another member of the team named Brodie. Seemed to straight away take a disliking to me. For what reason I am completely unsure.. he completely ruined our last night here. Even though management put every effort in to making it memorable! I asked him if I had somehow offended him because of the rude extremely unprofessional manner he continued to greet me with throughout the night. I was answered YES I HAD? How I’m truely unsure. All I had done was order and pay for drinks. When I questioned him why I am being treated this way he said he just doesn’t like the way I ordered the food n beverages I paid for. Which was extremely strange because I made a point to treat the staff with the utmost respect. Reason being is because Alex HAZEWINKEL & Silvia treated me so well, even when the assistant manager Silvia heard how rudely Brodie was treating me and asked him to apologise. He straight up refused and instead said IM NOT APOLOGISING TO HIM! It’s unfortunate that employees like Brodie can undermine the mangers attempt at creating a magnificent atmosphere!! I would probably not re visit because of this.
Accomodation was very modern, clean and comfortable. Great...
Read moreIf you are looking for 5 star accommodation I highly recommend. Rooms are brilliant, both for couples or families. If you are a Perth traveler or interstate don’t bother with their food. Having traveled many times down south the food has become so cheap dull and stingy. Each bad review promises that the food wasn’t to “our standard” well seriously when this going to change? I have eaten now 10 times in the last year alone, each time it gets worse. The chef must have a budget of $5.50 per meal, pizza so microscopic you be lucky to see anything but cheese, Parma , under cooked dry chips cheap, steak sandwich 3 lettuce leaves, cheap bacon(undercooked) cheap 50 cent cheese, under ripe tomatoes, steak so chewy best to eat the sole of your shoe. and wait for it 2.50 barbecue sauce from Cole’s Seriously are we trying to sting each traveler here? Then we have Mr “yep” man serving, Just looked at your “cheap Christmas menu” screams cheap dull and boring. We all know times are tough, and we need to be economic, but geez can the chef try to at least try to make the food exciting, well crafted, visually exciting and tasty? Our do you really care? Cannot fault older staff working very hard bookings, bar and tables, whilst Mr “yep” stands by and does little to nothing…… Sitting in my hotel room still hungry eating a packet of chips For gods sake get this food problem sorted, otherwise...
