We were very excited to visit this restaurant as someone said that they enjoyed the most authentic South Indian cuisine in WA. However, on our visit on 19 September, the expectation was not met.
The Indian lady’s service was nice so I didn’t wanted to give one star.
I have visited most of the states in India, all in south India, and I was excited to finally taste those punchy vibrant South Indian flavours - but from what we ordered, we weren’t able to get that.
The bajji was not bad, but lacked in flavour and the mint chutney lacked in freshness - was quite creamy and not punchy.
The chilly idly was good in flavour, however the spice level was incredibly mild (did not match the spice level chart on menu).
Paneer tikka masala was ok, but was very very sweet. (Added some chilli sauce from the kitchen to eliminate the sweet taste a little bit).
What was really disappointing was the fish curry. The fish had an overly pungent flavour, and texture was off. I’m not sure if the fish was fresh or not… we couldn’t actually eat any of it.
Maybe the dosas were good we may have ordered the wrong dishes - but being this close to the water and for the price I would’ve hoped for...
Read moreThe Hidden Kitchen is a true gem and an absolute must-visit if you’re looking to enjoy authentic South Indian food. The moment you walk in, you’re welcomed with warm smiles and genuine hospitality that instantly makes you feel at home.
We tried a range of dishes and every single one was a hit. The paneer dosa was perfectly crisp on the outside and loaded with flavour. The vada and idli were incredibly soft, fresh, and served with delicious chutneys and sambar – just like you’d hope for in a proper South Indian breakfast. The masala dosa was packed with flavour and the set dosa was soft and comforting – both are definite must-tries!
A big shoutout to the kitchen team – they’re not only talented but also super friendly, engaging, and full of energy. You can feel the passion they have for what they do. Thank you, Anna, for making us feel so welcome and for the great conversation – you really made the experience special!
The food, the atmosphere, and the people all come together to make this a place we’ll keep coming back to. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an authentic and heartwarming South Indian...
Read moreWent tonight the food was wonderful. The Chefs Lamb Samosas were one of the best things I’ve ever had. As soon as you cut into the hard crispy pastry you are struck with the herby lamb mince. Although I asked for the South Indian fried chicken, I received a curry but I believe it was the South Indian curry (which I understand the mistake) it was delicious. The only reason this review is so low is due to the service. My friends and I had two young girls wait us and they were quite rude. One of the girls brought us our coconut rice and smacked it onto our table and didn’t say a word and then walked away when we said thank you, they then proceeded to look at the other girl and they laughed right in front of us. Then later on they both watched us eat and laugh front the entry to the kitchen. When my friends and I went to pay at the front counter the girl was very rude and obnoxiously asked if we’d like our receipt then handed it to us and said did you enjoy the food which we said yes it was amazing and then she said BYE. The food was great but I’d rethink your...
