With the ever-present risk of Covid, our family decided to take a holiday in Busselton.
So we ventured out on the first morning to find a nice cafe for breakfast, not expecting cafes that could possibly compete with some of the 'serious contenders' located in the alleyways of Fremantle or the tree-lined streets of Cottesloe... But.. Boy, were we in for a surprise!!!
Our visit to the Urban Coffee House 'blew us away'!! Yet, its ignominious entry to the side of a Bussell Highway shopping centre (near the town centre) was not unlike entering the Tardis!!
Once inside we discovered a well-lit Cafe with lots of attentive staff. There were little alleys surrounding the heart of the cafe. Each presented a variety of table locations for your meal, both private and not so private.
In the central part of the cafe, there was a mouth-watering range of food offered, both savoury and sweet. Most were contained in the display glass display counters surrounding the service area and kitchen.
We chose a table, ordered our food, and marvelled at the pleasant vibe of a top-notch cafe in our beautiful South-West. There was pleasant music in the background, and even a little play area in the corner for the young kids.
I enjoyed an avocado- smash type meal, with bacon and a hint of chili. One of my guests enjoyed the local muesli with fruits, and there was a choice of granola as an alternative. Also a wide range of drinks including Chai teas, smoothies, coffees and juices was available. I enjoyed a 'detox' juice with apple, lemon ginger etcetera.
If you're looking for the 'perfect marriage' between urban and country, look no further than the Urban Coffee House in...
Read moreMy family and I came here for breakfast and ordered our food just to be told they had no mushrooms but they ended up compensating for extra sausages with our meal so everything was going well until my family wanted water, I was told the water bottles and cups were in the fridge in the corner and so I went over and grabbed a bottle of water and cups they had⌠as I started pouring into the cups I noticed they all had black bits in them, so I put them to the side and saw proper clean glass cups they had up on the shelf just to be yelled at by a youngish lady in grey hair staff or owner Iâm not sure to put them back and that they were glassware she was using for making the coffees and so I said back to her that all the other cups in the fridge were all dirty and so I kept walking with them and poured our waters each just to watch one of the other staff members look at all the cups in the fridge and take them all back behind the kitchen to wash them⌠itâs a shame the service was so bad because the food and coffee was actually really good but that lady needs to work on her customer service skills. Itâs two...

An interesting layout - youâre sitting in a narrow enclosed patio area if youâre not in the main area - but itâs heated and quieter than sitting indoors. You do have to negotiate other tables to move around, but it works.
The service was excellent, with sincere smiles and friendliness, and quick turn around on the meals.
Coffee was good - not great - but hey, coffee is like sex: even when itâs not great, itâs better than not having it.
The food was excellent, except for the grilled tomato - which wasnât grilled enough, but too much to be ârawâ. That aside, they were happy to substitute components of âThe Gregâ - their standout menu item. Which was great for the vegetarians and Vegan in the squad.
The serves were generous, delicious and quick to arrive. The French Toast was outstanding, and they were not stingy with the maple syrup - a common flaw.
Bring your appetite and a smile and you wonât be...
