Chechos is hands down the best Mexican restaurant I’ve been to. From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed with a vibrant atmosphere that perfectly complements the authentic flavors on the menu. The food is consistently outstanding — from the freshly made tacos and enchiladas to the rich sauces and generous portions, every dish feels like it’s made with passion and attention to detail. What really makes Chechos stand out is not just the food, but the service and management. Barry and his team set the standard for excellent hospitality. They’re attentive, professional, and genuinely care about ensuring every guest leaves happy. You can see Barry’s leadership reflected in the way the staff works seamlessly and maintains such a high level of service. Whether you’re going for a casual meal, a special night out, or simply craving Mexican cuisine, Chechos delivers every time. The combination of delicious food, great atmosphere, and outstanding management makes this restaurant a true gem!

Overall food was so-so. Flavourful, but the flavours didn’t always go well together, and often weren’t balanced properly. Drinks were extremely sweet, almost challenging to drink. The sauce for the kingfish aguachile was tangy but quite over-salted. We also got the pulled pork and soft shell crab tacos. The ingredients were cooked well, but unfortunately the sauce was a major letdown. For the adobo pulled pork, the flavour was drowned out in excess BBQ sauce, and the crab was lost in a flood of mayo. We were looking for a finer balance with more originality. There’s quite a bit they could improve upon. Overall food is overpriced for what it is.

Went on a Wednesday for dinner, table of 2 and it was packed probably because of their $5 taco night. Good food and drink selection. Medium cost price. Beautiful venue and extremely friendly staff. Unfortunately not enough wait staff for the amount of people and hence our order took a little long to make with the wait staff. They were very apologetic about it. Food wise the tacos (fish and soft shell crab) were average but the pork belly and wings were excellent. Huge servings ! Personally I wouldn’t go back but for a weekday night out would recommend to try.

I booked a bottomless brunch for my sister’s surprise 30th birthday with a group of 14 guests, and unfortunately, the experience was very underwhelming. For a $1,000 booking, I expected a well-organised and flowing service — after all, a bottomless brunch should mean that food and drinks keep coming to ensure everyone is satisfied.

Instead, we had to continually ask for everything we received. In the first 30 minutes, I had asked one of the waitresses to get a few frozen margaritas, as it was my sisters 30th birthday and margaritas are her favourite drink - the waitress said she will have to ask another worker if they serve them for this event, despite having an email confirmation of what was included - this didn’t come until at least 2pm, our booking started at 1pm.

In the first hour, our group of 14 was only served two plates of guacamole with chips and two small handbag cocktails (that tasted like pure juice mind you) which were gone almost instantly. While the staff were friendly, it was clear they were uncoordinated and unsure of what was happening.

After an hour and a half, we received just enough tacos for us to have 1 each, then took at least another 20-30 minutes to receive anymore, after again asking the staff continuously to keep bringing them out. We also asked for more guac and chips and the waitress brought out 3 small bowls of guac only.. with no chips?

It wasn’t just our table — several others were also left waiting close to two hours for their first round of tacos. For a venue promoting a “bottomless” experience, this was incredibly disappointing and poorly managed.

With the drinks, the margaritas were purely tequila and the handbags were just sugar - majority of us that were drinking ended up feeling extremely sick with at least two of the group vomiting just to make themselves feel better. Also to note - we had a cocktail bag with one of the handles completely broken off and the glass was sharp! This could have easily ended in an injury - I understand there aren’t enough handbags to go around, but for the safety of your guests - throw this out and give people cocktails in a jug?

It seems they tried to redeem themselves by bringing out a bunch of food all in one go towards the end of service, which was an absolute waste, we ended up telling the staff to give the food that were about to be served to us to the next table as they hadn’t received anything other than guac and chips. They also provided free shots towards the end, which was a nice surprise, and although the food was tasty and fresh, it really was not enough to redeem themselves or the experience we had.

Would I recommend this place for a bottomless brunch? Absolutely not. Save your money and go next door to Humber, where the service and organisation are far superior and you actually get what you pay for without having...

The worst bottomless brunch I’ve ever been to. Last Saturday, we paid $79 per person for our friends surprise 30th birthday and there was about 14 of us. Took almost an hour for at least half of us to get a drink and we ordered the moment we got there. We had to ask for both food and drinks constantly and asked for an explanation as to why it’s taking so long. No one would come back with an explanation, they’d just walk away and not come back. We started with guac and chips which we asked for 30 mins in. We had 4 plates for the table. They were finished within 5 mins. Weren’t offered more so I asked for more. And they gave us one tiny bowl of guac. We did not receive the tacos until after an hour in after asking several times. Our drinks were worse. We ordered 5 handbag cocktails the moment we got there. An hour later, we had ordered 15 by then. And still, only had received 2 in that time. And no other drinks. Including mocktails. It was absolutely atrocious. Then when our 2 hour time limit had almost run out, our table got slammed with drinks and food which we did our best to consume but with the amount of juice and sugar in those cocktails we all felt ridiculously unwell including bathroom trips.. there’s only 2 hours for us to consume food and drinks we expect and we don’t get any of that until our time was almost up. Obviously that was unachievable to finish when we were due to leave. As a bottomless brunch, food and drinks should be flowing constantly. You arrive, you get a drink and food pretty much right away and consistently like every other bottomless in the Illawarra region. I watched the other tables and they all had similar problems. Except I saw many of the small tables getting handbag cocktails or jugs and we kept getting neglected and given individual cocktails, eventually! I could tell they didn’t have enough handbag cocktails to provide handbag cocktail bottomless so just remove it from your bottomless menu if you can’t achieve it. Same goes for the other drink and food options. Simplify it and keep it the same for everyone like many other restaurants locally to avoid the terrible service. The staff were nice just unaware of how to provide an effective service. The dj was awesome, the food was nice, but the service itself was horrendous. So much potential. One of our handbags even had a broken glass handle which was incredibly sharp. There was plenty of staff there, it was as busy as it usually is. Feedback from others have been the same for their experiences as well. I shan’t be going back here again. None...

I made a booking for my birthday and ended up crying and having to leave because of the horrible experience we had with the waiter. I never leave reviews on restaurants but I eat out a lot and so do my friends and we have never experienced anything like what we experienced last night at this restaurant. I have never seen such rudeness, disrespect and disorganisation. I had booked for 11 but ended up only having 10 people. We were originally seated at a table for 10 which was perfect. But, as soon as we sat down the waitress moved us to a table for 9. We then communicated with the waiter who was incredibly rude and simply asked him for a bigger table as I had originally booked for 11 and was given a very small table that was cramped and only sat 9 and could not fit any more chairs or people to it. He told us that we will have to wait 30min for a different table that could open up. The table for 10 that we were originally sat at didn’t have a reservation coming for 30min. We communicated with the waiter that we could take the table for 10 that is due to come in 30min and the people who come in 30min can have the table that we were promised as it will take 30min to become available anyways. The man fought with us about this for 10min and instead of trying to come up with a solution he told as we could no longer have the table that we promised us in 30min. He said we had to stay at the table for 9 where we didn’t fit even though I booked for 11. There was an empty table sitting there that he told us we couldn’t have which was very frustrating. He did not apologise for the inconvenience or admit to over booking themselves. The most frustrating part was he wouldn’t answer the questions we were asking would just keep repeating himself instead and then laughed in our faces when we started to become frustrated at the situation. He escalated the problem and it could have been dealt with in such a professional and respectful manner but he made it worse. Laughing in 10 customers faces because we were upset was absolutely the cherry on top of the terrible service. We then had to leave due to them not having a table for us in the heavy heavy rain that we had to walk in to get there. Then had to walk in the rain to find another restaurant to eat at that for my birthday which was not easy to do on a Saturday night...
