The Cafe Mitte is the place to be in Graz if you are into club atmosphere within a bar-coffee shop fusion. The Cafe Mitte is located in the old town of Graz, right in the center of Graz, as the name „Mitte“ already suggests for those of you who know German. For those who don’t: Mitte = Center.
And in the background it plays club music loud and unambiguously, making it a little hard to have deep conversations.
The staff is friendly and the Cafe has free WiFi and plugs depending where you sit. This cool Cafe has long opening hours, closing every day not before 01:00 and Saturdays and Sundays not before 02:00. On the corner the bartender will make you „whatever“ your heart is longing for or at least trying his best to do so.
As you see above I took a „Thronprinz“ Cider as a side dish, after having skipped the main dish 😀 And as the sign goes, here they serve the coffee in different ways as you might be used to. They even have a huge wooden table with iron inlays.
By the way „Thronprinz“ in German is a pun, a variant of „Kronprinz“, which means crown prince. So Thronprinz is an already sitting crown prince, not waiting anymore for becoming what he is longing for.
They do have cakes, tarts and stuff here, and real Thai food as well, since they cook for you. And this all you can have while sitting on sofas or vintage chairs.
With Love! Dr. Dr....
Read moreMinus two stars for charging a same-day cancellation fee (10 Euros per person) - imho unacceptable for a quite regular/everyday place like this on any day of the week, but in particular on a Tuesday evening.
And taking off another star (two if I could) for the original behavior of the owner in replying to customer reviews.
Your example with the hotel is a poor one: for a hotel, filling a room for the night after a same-day cancellation is much less likely than for a restaurant to fill a table on a busy night. In fact, your restaurant would cash in twice when charging a cancellation fee of 20 Euros a table AND then filling the table with walk-ins. And on a non-busy day, the restaurant would not lose any revenue anyway by not filling the table - so your rationale makes no sense either. Actually, your policy can deter people like me (who cannot fully plan the time the get off work) from even coming when reservations come with the risk of fees. So you lose turnover and customers - congrats!
And to your question - yes, I know your place very well, have been there many times. I will refrain from frequenting it again in the foreseeable future. My thanks to your friendly team (of which you seem to hire too few, as service is sometimes...
Read moreMy experience: there for a spritzer with my girlfriend. They let us to sit at a table for 4. We order, they served and less than a minute later they ask us to move to another table. I asked why and the waiter said that that table was too big for us (there were no 4 guys pushing to get our table around). I said that any other customer of their bar can sit with us, couple or single. He insisted. So I asked where can we sit. He showed me a small board hanging beside toilets door... I said no way. There was another option for us: a round small table with stools just under a window compartment where a female trump was sleeping hugging her case. It was too much. I gave back to the waiter the drinks we didn’t touch yet and I went to the door. He stopped me. He wanted me to pay the drinks anyway. Ahahaha... no way my friend. And see you soon... no! nay!...
