A mixed bag. We had breakfast here twice, the staff were pleasant and helpful, the breakfast options were OK but not huge outside the set options. Nice soft-boiled eggs!
We then had dinner there one evening, and it was disappointing. The service wasn't great, we waited around 15 minutes for our drinks after ordering.
We were told to just turn up at 8pm, because they didn't reserve tables and it wouldn't be a problem. As a group of 4 we were asked to sit at a place with a narrow small table because it was the only one available, and although the waitress added a small table on the end it didn't help much. As the plates were rectangular, being wide and thin, it turned out to be not a huge problem, just irritating. And I noticed there were "reserved" signs for placing on tables.
The actual food was acceptable, although the mixed salad was poor value - potato salad, chunks of parboiled cauliflower, and lettuce. No cucumber, no tomatoes. The service just happened, but not with a smile, and not very welcoming. All in all, I'd recommend it for breakfast, but there are much nicer places to have an evening meal and we wouldn't go back...
Read moreSorry to post a negative review, it's my first time to do it, but I have to warn other customers. I ordered apple strudel(December 14, at 4pm), but to my surprise the waitress brought me topfen(cottage cheese) strudle. When I told her, she said "there was no apple left, we had only this", put it in front of me without asking me if I want it, without even leaving a spoon and left. I decided to have it as I wanted to speak with my friends, not argue with waitresses. But I still needed a spoon. When I asked for it, it took her 10 minutes to get me one. To add insult to injury, when I paid the bill without a tip, she asked me "where's the tip?", I replied "I don't want to offer one" she said "that's not possible (das ist unmöglich)!" I hope Cafe Rathaus improves, because it's a beautiful, traditional cafe. I'd tell them in private, but they were not ready to listen to me, so I decided to write this,...
Read moreI planned on visiting one of the nearby restaurants, which was closed, so I popped by here for dinner. The service was great and the ambiance was welcoming. My family and I had some fruity and some ginger lemon tea, which both smelled and tasted great. 3 stars for the food because the appetizer, the shrimp cocktail, made me nauseous and ruined my palate for the entire evening. I managed to stomach the potatoes served alongside the pecher (maybe wrong) fish i ordered. My family enjoyed their pan-seared salmon, but the roast beef had to be returned as it was too salty. The chef returned it and it tasted better. The fresh orange juice still had pulp in it, and although I didn't mind, it may be off putting for others.
I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend here if you're looking for a variety of...
