Marienhof — Restaurant in Vienna

Nice place, delicious food marred by one small inconvenience....

We arrived at Marienhof with no reservation on Friday evening and were shown to a cute little table, perfect for two. We ordered a bottle of red (Austrian) which was lovely. The service was friendly and efficient. Atmosphere was very sedate and relaxing.

My roasted pumpkin soup was absolutely delicious! I savoured every spoonful and thought it was (no exaggeration) the best soup I had ever had!! My partner was very pleased with her beef bouillon.

Main courses were just the same quality. She chose Schnitzel and loved it, very crisp and tasty with no residual oil. I had a roasted beef in a mustard sauce with potato salad which was very very nice.

Overall, we had a great meal and I was in an excellent mood. Unfortunately, when I asked for the bill, I was asked for 70 euros in cash which I didn't have. No option to pay with card (in the 21st Century!).

This started a 20 minute dash around to find a cash machine apparently 150 metres away which when found, proved to be out of order. A mad (300m) dash back up the hill (the way I had come) found me a working cash machine.

After a half-kilometer dash in the cold while my partner sat on her own in the restaurant, I admit that I found myself somewhat in a bad mood. On reflection, now that I have calmed down, I regret not giving a larger tip because they all deserved it.

I hope this 5-star review and the promise that I will return (with sufficient cash, next time) will make-up for my minor tantrum.

It was really a good surprise from the outside you would have no idea what a lovely terrace area they have in the back ( Indoors has white tablecloth seating that two was very nice) but it was a very nice evening so it was perfect to sit out on the terrace the food was gourmet that was also a surprise I had the avocado tartare It was very good and very creatively plated The Wienerschnitzel was a very large portion it came with boil potatoes it was very good also had the salmon with beet crram ( not really sure what that was but it was very good) salmon itself was just ok. again very creative!!!dessert which I can’t even describe they said it was ice with raspberries tonkabohne it was good and very creative !!!!this really teaches me a lesson when you go past a door it doesn’t look that interesting from the outside but when you read the reviews and walk inside you can get a pleasant surprise the waiter was very helpful knowledgeable professional and nice which also made the meal enjoyable the outdoors terrace has flowers all around nice Setting with a lot of history to it !!!prices...

Normalerweise ging ich gerne hierher essen - gemütlich, preiswert, gutes Essen, aber man hat das Gefühl seit dem der junge Kellner Herr Erjon nicht mehr dort arbeitet, funktioniert in dem Lokal gar nichts mehr. Es kam schon davor mal zu längeren Wartezeiten bis das Essen kommt, aber es kam jetzt schon einige Male zu oft vor und das Erlebnis heute setzt allem noch die Krone auf. Ich hatte reserviert. Der Tisch war aber besetzt, gut die Gäste wollten schon zahlen, dies dauerte aber immerhin schon 15 Minuten. Dann setzten wir uns, das Tischtuch und die Bank übersäht von Nudelresten und Flecken. Wurde nicht gewechselt. Nach weiteren 15 Minuten kam dann endlich mal jemand vorbei. Wir bestellten. Bei einem Lokal wo in der Mittagszeit 90% das Menü bestellen, könnte das schneller gehen. Nach weiteren 15 Minuten kamen die Getränke. Nach weiteren 15 Minuten fragte ich mal nach, wo denn das Essen bleibt, die die nach uns kamen hatten ihres schon längst bekommen. Es werden im Minutentakt verpackte Speisen, für diejenigen die zum mitnehmen bestellen, nach vorne zur Theke gebracht und diejenigen die vor Ort essen müssen warten. Lange warten. Diese Logik muss mir einer erklären. Wir haben dann nach einer Weile noch eine Kellnerin gefragt, wie lange es noch dauern würde. Diese reagierte gar nicht und lief hektisch davon. Die Kellnerin, die die Bestellung entgegennahm war nicht auffindbar.

Wenn man nicht selbst nachfragt was denn eigentlich los ist, sagt einem niemand, dass es zb. heute länger dauert oder entschuldigt sich vielleicht kurz zwischendurch.

Das einzige was man vielleicht mal hört, ja heute ist viel los. Ja danke, das sieht man, andere Lokale kommen damit aber zurecht.

Leute standen schon bis in den hinteren Teil des Lokals an, um vorne an der Theke zu bezahlen. Wir verliesen das Lokal hungrig und verärgert. Wer gerne eine lange Mittagspause von mehreren Stunden macht und gerne lange wartet, dem empfehle ich...
