Don't how much I should say to express my impression with this place!!! 😘😍♥️
I was about to find a local, iconic 'Wiener kaffeehaus' which is not too well-known to travellers, and fortunately ending up with this one. Its close to my homestay anyways.
I got a Wiener Melange with whipped cream and a Mozartorte. So proud of my choice! 👏
☕️If you want a see-through look for your drink, go for an "Einspanner" which is DOUBLE espresso topped with whipped cream and served in a glass. I can't stand a double so here I go, a MELANGE with a splash of whipped cream. Good for a cappuchino lover! The coffee is served with the Viennese style - a small tray with lil cup of water, a spoon and the coffee of your choice.
🍰For the sweet, Mozartorte is a multi-layer cake with the most amazingly complicated but satisfying texture I've ever had at a cafe!!!🤩 Basically, the decisive flavours of Mozartorte is CHOCOLATE & PISTACHIO. The decoration can tell! From the top down, there is a jelly-like pistachio glaze followed by a thin basic sponge cake layer (but soaked by the sweetness and nutty smell from the glaze). The central is vedette! Instead of making an ordinary layer-by-layer Mozartorte, they decided to level up this one by layering MARZIPAN (almond-based confection, that's why it tastes and smells quite specially) and chocolate sponge diagonally! Then another sponge cake for the base and pistachio sprinkles! Flavourful! Eye-catching! Instagrammable!🤌👌
I spent almost 2 hours here reading, writing while enjoying my self-treat and being wallowed in the vibe. The cosy, calm, nostalgic display and atmosphere here can embrace you in the midst of the hustle out there. There is a variety of newspaper and herald for the local (with old school holders, OMG love this!)
I personally will come back to try the savoury food and freshly-made...
Read moreA truly disappointing experience. They don't accept cards. Only cash. The waiters were awful, extremely rude and made me and my family felt unwelcome. We wanted to take some Sacher Torte back home and we asked one of the waiters for a box to take away the dessert and he looked at us and said that we needed to ask one of his colleagues (the guy behind the counters preparing the desserts and coffee) for the takeaway box.
Through some confusion between speaking German and English, the staff thought we wanted to buy a new slice of Sacher Torte to take away and he almost gave us a nicely decorated box where he was about to place the new slice of Sacher Torte but when I explained that we wanted to take a leftover slice that we had ordered, he proceeded to discard the box and wrap the slice in aluminium foil.
Also, as we were standing up the table, another waiter came to immediately pick up all dishes, cups and glasses from our table, as if signalling that we needed to get out at once.
To summarise: avoid this place like the plague, expensive, extremely rude waiters and staff and a place where you are made to feel unwelcome even though you are a paying customer. You have...
Read moreI’ve lived in Vienna for two years and have yet to encounter service as disrespectful as here. Plenty of good Viennese cafes with decent service treating one with dignity. Cafe Jelinek and Savoy are nearby as examples.
Since the cafe is requesting more info, I’m happy to do so publicly and not via an email that no one can read!
I simply wished to pay, and the waiter so acknowledged when he came by. I waited for ten minutes while he helped everyone in the vicinity including others who wished to pay and leave. When I signaled him, he seemed to not see. Finally I spoke up a bit louder, and he grunted at me, didn’t even look at me, and continued to walk by. He simply didn’t come back. Needless to say, it all seemed like willful ignorance. I had to go pay at the bar myself. This whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth.
(I could not help but notice that I was the only „foreign“ looking person despite speaking German. I can’t say for certain that this mattered, but if the cafe can’t even hire decent waiters, this seems emblematic of a...
