This was our first time at Ebi, and there were both good and bad things to say about it.
Pros: The food was really good, both cold and warm. This is an achievement in my opinion because some Asian restaurants are either good at sushi, or warm meals, but this one does both well. My wife liked the sushi best and I was pleasantly surprised by the apple gyoza desert. Our waiters were very competent. I liked the decor (the dark colors, the big vases). There were people moving used dishes away and wiping the tables continuously, so there was never a mess. When we ordered drinks they arrived very fast (we only ordered non-alcoholic drinks so your experience may vary) I enjoyed the "check please" button, as it is hard sometimes to hail down a waiter in other restaurants when you're ready to leave. The prices are very good when take into consideration that similar restaurants have similar prices for their all-you-can-eat deals, but no food to match the quality of Ebi.
Cons: It's pretty narrow and loud, even on a weekday evening. This might not bother you if you come in expecting more of a bar feel than a restaurant ambiance. Sometimes we would receive a plate of food that was sticky on the bottom, where it had rested on another plate with sauce on it. This is understandable when servers have to move huge quantities of food around all day, but it's not pleasant to get sticky fingers from picking up a plate. The tablet ordering system seemed to have the opposite effect of its intended purpose, as it complicated things. There was some sort of mixup, as we started receiving foods we didn't order. The orders also showed up on our tablet, so it must've been linked with another table. We informed the server but she didn't speak German, so the issue wasn't resolved until our waiter came around again. They eventually moved the food away, but it also ment we didn't receive orders we actually did place, until we placed them again in person. We ended up staying about 20 minutes longer than we intended because of this.
I hope this review will help make up someone's mind whether to visit this establishment or not. Personally, I wasn't upset about the mixup, but it doesn't make me want to rush back either. My wife enjoyed the food a lot and definitely wants us to...
Read moreFood quality is 5 stars, service is unfortunately 1 star. We reserved a table for 2 and my friend arrived first and was placed on a table. As I arrived with a baby stroller a man who seemed to be the manager showed up saying he would change us to another table and disappeared. Turned out he wanted us to have followed him, so he came back and asked if we wouldnt follow him. Sure! He placed us on the very last table of the restaurant, wjich I actually preferred since it was much quieter, he opened a door to a storage room and asked me to put the stroller there, and left. The room had no room to fit anything else besides all chairs they were keeping inside so of course I didnt bother trying to fit it in and the manager was making no efforts to be helpful/courteous either. My friend had ordered a beer from the first table and followed up few times about it until someone finally checked her order and clarified that her colleague, whom I believe was the manager again, had canceller her order, so my friend should once again order it through the tablet. Yes, the guy cancelled the requests from my friend without the minimum courtesy of letting her know. We finally ordered what we wanted through the tablet and were served the dishes but the waiter forgot our sides (ginger and wasabi) so we got up and take it ourselves. At some point we just wanted some tap water and the waiter told us we should also use the tablet for that request. To get the check as well, you should use the table to request and only the manager receives the payment so we had to wait until he was done with other tables to be able to pay and leave. The idea of the orders through the tablet in general is quite practical but I felt they they completely lost the personal touch. The waiters are simply robots serving us the food and wont do anything but that. And the manager treats us as numbers, so I would call this place an "eatery". Come for the food, help yourself, eat the food and leave. Thankfully the food is really good, to be fair, the salmon for example is absolutely tender and there are many options of dishes to choose from. So go, but go for...
Read moreUntil yesterday's visit, I considered Ebi to be a serious restaurant and it was my must have stop in Vienna, where I was always looking forward to. Yesterday (10. 12. 2022) my boyfriend and I had a reservation at 2:00 p.m., table number 36. We ordered our first order (two drinks and a few pieces of food). At 14:10, the staff came to us and placed 2 drinks we ordered and 5 large glasses of water. It seemed strange to us and we immediately spoke with the waitress. She left our table with no response. A few seconds later, three waiters stood around our small table and began to place a large plate full of sushi and three salads on the table and no one listened to us when we said that there must have been a mistake and we were getting the food we didn’t order. Two people arriving at 2pm for their reservation don’t need to order 5 glasses of water and food for apparently more people in 10 minutes. Unfortunately, it only made sense to us, and the staff continued to bring us something that wasn't ours. The highlight of our experience was that the waiters were not even able to listen to us and none of them admitted for a second that there could be a restaurant’s fault. The tall man and the woman with a piercing behaved particularly unprofessionally, she was muttering something to herself looking at us several times, they were getting loudly annoyed and showing us a piece of paper with an order as if we were stupid for refusing something we “ordered”. The only apology we got was after half an hour from the lady who brought us the drinks. The problem was really technical, because orders were mixed from two tables. When the staff found out, they were not even able to look at us or possibly apologize. We had a very unpleasant experience and the behavior of the staff was so arrogant. The whole thing could have been solved right from the start...
