It seems like the hipster-glory times of Freiraum are over and there are new in-places in Vienna. Still, for many, Freiraum still lives up to its standards and has a solid base of repeat customers and fans. To us, it's one of our longest-known eateries and we just love the atmosphere inside and to sit, eat, drink and enjoy. But portion sizes have literally shrunk and the prices now are quite shocking to be honest. Not talking bout inflation here, it has been shocking already last year compared to what we were used to. Food is good, nothing to complain. But nothing super special either. I just wish they would focus on offering more authentic flavors and quality instead of offering everything across the globe. I just feel that trying to offer literally a little bit of everything is just not the right concept anymore if you want to keep up the expected high level of authentic flavours and taste. Like maybe keep the Pizzas and breakfast but try to do really good Ramen for 2 weeks but then only that, or only Tacos but different ones. I never understood why you would offer Thai soup, tacos with pulpo and pizza in the same place. It all means that we settle for not 100% authentic flavor in neither dish. There is always a wholegrain-alternative and you'll find vegan dishes, too. We love that. Especially the whole grain pizza dough is great. Coffee is good, too. But to say that it is still as good and convincing as it used to be 4 years ago, I...

Read moreWe got the club sandwich and the American box breakfast for me and the wife and it was pretty good. The American box was a bit bland and had to add salt. The potatoes could've used some seasoning. The avocado in my club sandwich would've been better spread rather than half just in the middle of the sandwich. But it tasted very good, very fresh and the French fries it came with were very tasty.
The kids got pizzas which were well made with fresh ingredients. They are big enough to share for children, though, so be careful! They are cooked in a proper pizza oven as well.
Service was decent, if not a bit inattentive. We had no idea the menu was only online so we sat there waiting for menus for a good 5 minutes before noticing a small QR code on the nifty bottle/light on the table.
Price was decent for the area, nothing unexpected.
We also got Aperol spritz with Prosecco, which was on par for Austria. Hard to find one that matches how they are made in Italy, not sure...
