We had dinner last night at Mesze Vienna, a Greek Mediterranean restaurant and bar located next to the Prater Amusement Park. It was the six of us , two couples and two kids, aged 7 and 10 after spending the afternoon riding all the rides and having a blast at the park.
Although we didn’t have a reservation and it was getting a bit late, we were warmly welcomed with a genuine smile from the staff, and they quickly found us a table.
The terrace was full and quite crowded with smokers, so we chose to sit indoors instead.
The interior was beautiful and tidy, creating a relaxed and cozy atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious! fresh, healthy Mediterranean dishes full of flavor. We ordered pork belly, lamb chops, chicken skewers, and the soup of the day, which was a lentil and tomato soup. Every single dish was outstanding. The meat dishes came with generous portions of salad and French fries, which made the meal even more satisfying.
What truly made the evening special was the staff. Every single person working there was incredibly warm, witty, and genuinely kind. They were also so sweet and friendly to the kids, chatting with them and making them feel welcome, which meant a lot to us. It honestly felt like visiting family for the holidays—the atmosphere was that heartfelt and welcoming.
At one point, a bit of smoke from the terrace drifted into the dining area, and when we mentioned it, the staff kindly closed the window right away and made sure we were comfortable.
Even as we approached closing time, they never made us feel rushed. They let us know they were nearing the end of the night, but in such a considerate and thoughtful way that we felt truly cared for.
It was a perfect dinner experience… delicious food, beautiful setting, and the kindest people working there. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone. It’s one of those rare spots that stays in your memory for all the...
Read moreThis is a superb Greek restaurant. In combination it should get 6 Stars. The food is drop dead delicious. The fried calamari was probably the best I’ve ever had. The batter perfectly prepared light and crispy and balanced so well with calamari, and tasted so fresh I would have thought we were seaside. We also enjoyed several other fantastic dishes. A delightful plate of zucchini and eggplant so tenderly fried it tasted like a cloud, alongside excellent taziki sauce, We also enjoyed meatballs stuffed with feta cheese and accompanied by a homemade mayonnaise that was simply stunning. We ordered extra because it paired so well with everything. Our two main dishes were the octopus salad, which was fresh and delicious, and the finest example of Greek moussaka this side of the Fire Gates. After dinner we enjoyed a pot of Greek Mountain tea and a delicious homemade orange punch/schnapps. The atmosphere is casual and inviting with just the right accents, lighting, and comfort. Service is awesome. Friendly, welcoming and had the feel of a family place were they all liked each other and shared that warmth with their guests. Hard to beat. As I said - 5 stars...
Read moreI really like Mesze, we always eat here. The food is very very good, and their mittagsmenu weekly is a nice touch. BUT, there was a sudden and unexpected price increase. I get it when you increase SOME prices with at most 1-2€, but not when you choose to increase positions in the menu with 6€!!
For example, my go-to order meal was the calamari fritti, which before was 16.5€, but now I was surprised to see that it is 22€. That’s a 33% increase in price.
For some it may be nothing in absolute terms, but relatively it’s a very big change.
I really loved the affordability and how lively was the atmosphere before. But now, while the food is still delicious, it became a restaurant on the more expensive side, with fewer customers, and overall an emptier place, compared to before
Being next to 2 universities, and me being a student myself, I really appreciated the good quality food for such a reasonable price. But now, I am sure that the student customer base will just shrink and shrink, unfortunately. (Maybe this may be an incentive to offer some student discounts, to...
