Sipsong Bar — Restaurant in Vienna

First off: I love Thai-food. Thus I had my fair share of it in Vienna and tried many restaurants. But this place blew me away and nothing else comes close to it. The atmosphere is really nice, it is a fairly small bar with a colourful interior and friendly staff. But now to the real important part: The food! We shared the trout in curry (recommendation from the owner of the place), some Satae and the Laab (pork). I have to say: Without exaggeration, the trout was one of the best dishes I've eaten in my entire life. The fish itself was very delicious (how can the skin be still crispy, if it's served skinside down? It's magic!) but the curry was a total 10/10. Such a nice combination of slightly spicy and sweetness. The Laab was an explosion of flavours too. Lemongrass, meaty and a really nice texture with some crunchy pieces (crispy rice, grounded down). The Satae were great too, but they didn't blew us away like the other two dishes did. Also, nice variety of beer and cocktails. I have to admit that my expectations were not very high after reading some of the previous comments regarding the cramped seating situation and food being exceptionally spicy.

BUT, let me tell you, we had a fantastic dining experience- from the warm welcome, to the great recommendations when it comes to the food selection, to the cosy/casual atmosphere, great drinks, etc

It has to be mentioned that some of the previous comments relate to the former location which was also nearby - the newer location is far more spacious. Still a lot of seating for the space, very intimate and can get for sure a bit louder when full.

Food - FANTASTIC. Best advice - ask for their recommendation, also when it comes to the spice level and the concept is based on sharing dishes. Portions are not too big - try at least 3-4 dishes, I would say.

Wir wollten eigentlich ins Mamamon, sie hatten leider zu & haben uns aber ihr Partnerlokal (?) empfohlen - Sipsong Bar. Wenn das Essen nicht so lecker gewesen wäre müsste ich dem Lokal leider einen Stern geben, da ein komplettes Chaos herrscht. Wir haben zu zweit 3 verschiedene Speisen bestellt (ein Huhngericht, ein Labmoo/Salat, einen ganzen Fisch). Das erste Gericht (Huhn) kam nach zirka 20 Minuten Wartezeit (was ja akzeptabel ist). Nachdem wir aufgegessen haben mussten wir nochmal ca 20 Minuten auf das 2. Gericht (Fisch) warten, wo dann auch noch die Beilage (Reis) vergessen wurde. Das witzigste war aber, dass uns der Chef noch davor “gewarnt” hatte, dass vil der Reis vergessen werden kann und wir doch die Kellner erinnern sollen (warum macht er das denn nicht selber direkt ??). Nagut. Fisch aufgegessen. Nach erneuten langem Warten kam dann ein Kellner und wollte abservieren. Wir fragten in dem Moment wie lange denn noch der Salat (warum dieser als letztes kam verstehen wir auch nicht) dauern würde. Er sagte er fragt nach und vergaß dann aber beim Weggehen unser Geschirr abzuräumen. Er sagte uns eine genaue Zeitangabe von 6 Minuten, wir haben dann nochmals 15 Minuten gewartet. Auch hier wurde wieder die Beilage (Sticky Rice) vergessen. Wir zahlten danach und die Rechnung war auch falsch (ein Reis zu viel berechnet. Kurz zusammengefasst: die Menschen, die hier als KellnerInnen arbeiten sind definitiv nicht für diesen Job gemacht. Das Essen ist wirklich lecker aber in so einem Chaos kann man sein Abendessen leider nicht genießen. Hätten wir zu zweit nicht alles geteilt hätte eine Person sehr früh seine Hauptseide bekommen und die 2. Person erst knapp eine Stunde später, absolutes no go in...
