Zafferano Restaurant — Restaurant in Baku City

Fancy restaurant in the centre of Baku with various offerings and good service. We ordered qutab (photo added) as a starter. It was a bit small in size but the taste was fresh and good. As the main dish, we had “kefli becha” (photo added) and “chicken chkmeruli”. I tasted both and the only difference was in the sauce. The first one is a bit sweet, while the latter one is a bit spicy. The food was fresh and it tasted quite good. The apple juice was a bit old. It did not taste quite fresh. The service was very good. The waiters were around and asking for any assistance if needed. I did not like the atmosphere due to one reason. From the time of entrance to the restaurant, as local guests, we were greeted in Russian. Even the receipt is fully in Russian. As this restaurant does not specifically offer Russian cuisine or promote Russian culture, it is a bit weird for me to hear the other language in the restaurant offering Azerbaijani national food. I hope that the restaurant owners will reconsider this approach.

Everything was great until it was time to pay. I am American traveling..I use my US debit card only. Their server couldn't process the transaction, to this they admitted. Yet they walked us to an ATM in the mall in front of the entire restaurant which didn't work either. Again, the server not my card or bank. They made us pay with what cash we had leaving us with just enough cash to get back to hotel. And no way for me to get more cash. This really created hardship for us. They should have just let us go since admittedly their fault not mine. I had ability to pay they couldn't receive it. I called my bank it thus was true, my bank didn't refuse the transaction. People are not polite , first they didn't explain us what exactly food is , moreover when the food arrived , the quantity was too too small against the prices asked, moreover we ordered a roasted chicken , first the complete order came so delayed on Monday afternoon there was no rush then also it took them 45 min. Roasted chicken as if there was no meat in that chicken. ,when we complained the maker started arguing us. We came from India and had 5 days of good experience in Azrbhaijam , every one is so smiling and polite , buy this is the first bad experience in Baku. The person didn't had any culture...
