based on one visit on a specific day. Part of the Jose Andres restaurant empire which consists of 31 restaurants and numerous different concepts. I greatly admire his story and what he has done for people in need through his World Central Kitchen. But any chef would have difficulties keeping track of the goings on and management of that many establishments. Hopefully when he is at Fish later this year for the Wine & Food Festival, he makes time to look into how to improve the running of this one. The space is beautiful-lovely sea related art & calm blue hues. We made our highly recommended reservation before leaving the US so were greeted & seated promptly. We knew going in (after looking at the menu on the Atlantis website) the menu was seafood focused and also up there on the pricing scale. Soon were approached by a young man with waters & menus. We quickly decided to start with the Seafood Croquettes ($22) and ordered these from our personable seemingly experienced, server. Once we had made our selections, when the server returned my DW had a question regarding one of the cocktails, which surprisingly she could not answer. Moving on she chose a Cane Juice Buck ($19!)-Brazilian Rum, Ginger Beer, Lime, Bitters. My nonalcoholic choice was a Flamingo Shuttle-Guava, Vanilla, Citrus ($5). No problems with either. We also received our complimentary first round of Jose’s Cheddar Biscuits-another round is $8. They reminded us of a doughier version of a Gougere. Served with a honey butter. Our Croquettes were served quickly but arrived at the table barely warm. Seems they do not cook them to order, just warm pre cooked product. We kindly asked for a different order and those came out a much more appropriate temp. Our bus boy appeared to be quite inexperienced and attempted to clear these while we were still eating them, something that would pop up again during our meal. Entrée choices on our visit were the Halibut ($56), which the kitchen was kind enough to prepare without the listed Blackening spice as it is too strong in our experience and the Grouper ($54)-grilled with a passion fruit brown-butter. The Halibut (certainly not local) was accompanied by a tomato and caper salsa and an olive tapenade which for some reason never made it on to the plate. Alongside the Grouper was a half avocado which was over-grilled with a spoon full of the brown-butter in the hole. A vegetable from a list of four was also included with each entrée. Our choices were Grilled Asparagus with an unfulfilled promise of a romesco sauce and Twice Baked Potato with aged white cheddar and black pepper. Asparagus woefully undercooked and the potato was again an item that was clearly made ahead, then stuck under some type of heating device to scorch the top and render the interior still cool. Neither were winners tonight. Both fish filets were cooked very nicely and were the stars of the meal, while the tomato and caper salsa/salad was also a big hit with my DW. She felt it would make a meal unto itself in a larger portion. Unfortunately, more misses than hits during the entrée round. We did choose to try desserts. Menu lists Key Lime Pie ($12) and Banana Cream Pie ($12) but be very aware this is not close to actual pie. Both desserts are deconstructed-the Key Lime being a bowl of what resembled and taste like a bowl of bitter lime pudding topped with a sprinkle of graham cracker crumbs and a couple of dollops of meringue shot with a torch to “toast” it. The Banana Cream was a ribbon of said cream, topped with a half of a caramelized banana, more of the cracker crumbs dropped on the plate, and the menu listed a mojito sorbet again missing in action. (full disclosure-banana cream was taken to go). This had good flavor but the presentation on both is a big turn off imo. So all in all, with spotty service, poorly cooked food, missing menu items, and dishes with these prices, you can see how we would leave with the proverbial bad taste in our mouth. Including the mandatory 15% gratuity and the 10% VAT-the bill came to a the bill came to a...
Read moreShockingly Disappointed by this experience. Everything from the service to the food was abysmal. This was my third visit to the resort and my first time eating at Fish. Considering the prices and Jose Andre’s status as a Michelin star chef – the quality of food was appalling. We arrived for our 7pm reservation (early) in a timely manner as to respect our time commitment, the restaurant's scheduling, and the other guests – doing things in a timely manner is not something this wait staff is familiar with. We were seated promptly, and this was the first and last prompt thing to happen all dinner. Took over 10 minutes for a server to come over and offer us menus/drink menus while also saying “are you guys ready to order a drink?”…. Maybe I would have been if I had been given a drinks menu right when I was seated. We eventually order a bottle of wine which took over 20 minutes to come out – a server came out with the sommelier to take our order – 3 orders of mahi mahi, 1 grouper, 2 shrimp appetizers, one corn chowder, and 4 gluten free crab mac and cheese – we were told the mac and cheese could be made gluten free, by the chef, and the 3 celiacs at the table were very excited to have gluten free crab mac and cheese! For those that don’t know, that is almost too good to be true.. Another 15 minutes go by, and the chef comes out to tell us that the mac and cheese cannot be made gluten free…. Very disappointing and we have now been at our table for almost an hour with nothing other than a bottle of wine and disappointing mac and cheese issues. Some 10-15 minutes later another server comes out to tell us “Actually we are all out of the grouper can I get you anything else” at this point I’m really getting annoyed, and I order the mahi mahi like the other 3 people at my table – mind you we are now over an hour into the meal and 30 minutes since the rest of my party ordered. The appetizers now come out – the corn chowder was fine, both shrimp dishes were grossly overcooked and burned and the mac and cheese had no cheese sauce on it, just a thick layer of cold (once – melted) cheese sitting on top. Honestly disgusting and none of us finished our appetizers. Finally, all 4 Mahi Mahis come out (an hour after ordering the first 3 and all 4 of them are cold – they had been sitting for God knows how long. They were also served in a disgusting brown sauce with tasted like a cross between A1 steak sauce and Worcestershire sauce. All 4 of us had a couple of bites, called the server over, and finally complained. The manager came over and offered to take the 4 entrees off our bill – this was helpful but was not good enough. The manager asked if there was anything else he could get us. We were all so bitter and turned off at this point, we asked for only the check so we could leave as soon as possible. It was now almost 10pm and we had to try to find dinner elsewhere in the resort. Luckily we found space available at the Nobu Sushi Bar. Considering Atlantis charges a 15% auto tip, and they would not take off the rest of the gross food we did not eat, my bill was still over $200 for a $68 bottle of wine, $26 cold mac, and cheese, 2 $24 burnt shrimp plates and a $20 corn chowder. I complained to the hotel manager and was given a $50 credit to be applied to my room – this was never assessed to my bill at check out. This was a horrible experience, I will NEVER eat here again, and after the service I received at the restaurant and from hotel manager, Tanya Gibbons – I will not be returning to Atlantis after 3 consecutive years of visiting. My dining, gambling, and stays will be at Baha Mar from now on. I have also contacted my credit card issuer to have this meal charged back. Truly shameful and the staff should be...
Read moreDuring our recent trip to Atlantis, my wife and I eagerly anticipated dining at Fish, a restaurant highly recommended by friends who’ visited. Having traveled extensively and eaten some of the best seafood from a variety of renowned culinary destinations such as Hualien, Singapore, Cape Cod, Barcelona, Thailand, the Florida Keys, Shanghai, Xiamen, Sai Kung and Lau Fau Shan both in Hong Kong, we approached this meal with high expectations. Unfortunately, Fish did not deliver the flavor.
Opting for the tasting menu, we hoped to embark on a culinary journey that would highlight the restaurant’s finest offerings from the Bahamas. Regrettably, this decision turned out to be a grave and expensive mistake, resulting in a disappointing and lackluster dining experience. Our server pushed the option which is her job, but it was obviously too much food for 2 people. And we had had that discussion with her and she assured us it was not.
From the outset, the seafood croquettes were undercooked, lacking the necessary texture and flavor one would expect from the dish. The grouper, usually a delicate and flavorful fish, was overpowered by an excessive amount of lemon reduction, masking its natural taste. Similarly, the conch salad suffered from a similar fate drowning with the no life preserver in lemon, rendering it nearly inedible. It was an acidic overload.
Included was a ribeye steak, which should have been a red flag but I thought my daughter could try it. I normally stay away from meats at a seafood-focused establishment, arrived cold and rare, despite our request for medium-rare. To add to the confusion, the steak was paired with a puree identical to that served with the asparagus, creating a monotonous and uninspired combination. The mushroom side dish was abundant enough for a party of eight, a quantity that seemed both excessive and wasteful.
Desserts, which we chose to box and take away instead of eating should have provided a redeeming finale to the meal but we were just too disappointed to really give them their due. One was Key Lime and we were so done with acidic flavors. Our appetites were lost at sea, underwhelming and failed to justify the steep $160 per head price tag. Rather than leaving with our tastebuds invigorated and our culinary curiosity satisfied, we departed feeling profoundly disappointed and financially fleeced.
In summary, The dishes lacked balance, finesse, and thoughtful execution, making the overall experience unworthy of the high cost and namesake . As seasoned travelers who have enjoyed exceptional seafood worldwide, this was a stark reminder that even highly recommended establishments with fancy namesakes can fall short. ( sorry I didn’t take photos of all the food to...
