After three weeks with no response from either The Atlantis management or The Marriott Corporation, we have decided to post on the review sites||||Dear Atlantis Managers,||||I am writing to formally raise significant concerns following my recent stay at the Atlantis Coral Hotel in the Bahamas, from August 14 to August 17, during which my party occupied two rooms booked via Expedia.||||We had been genuinely looking forward to our visit, given Atlantis’s outstanding reputation, but sadly, our experience was deeply disappointing and fell far below the standards expected from a property of this caliber.||||Most alarmingly, there were critical safety issues that jeopardized the wellbeing of guests. Both rooms had connecting doors without proper locks. While these doors could not be opened from our side, the absence of any additional security mechanism posed a serious risk, particularly if the door was not fully shut. We have never stayed in rooms where you couldn’t lock the conjoining room. We were also informed that workers were staying in nearby rooms and they used latches to keep their doors partially open, creating a hazardous environment where anyone in the hallway could easily gain entry. This situation was not only unsettling but completely unacceptable from a guest safety perspective. Especially since our room was connected to one of the rooms that stayed open during our stay. The condition and functionality of the rooms were also highly unsatisfactory. The USB ports on the wall outlets did not work, rendering them unusable for charging devices, which was inconvenient and frustrating. In addition, the mini fridge in our room leaked water throughout our stay, soaking and ruining food we had stored inside. For a hotel of this level, these kinds of maintenance failures are extremely disappointing. The cleanliness of the rooms was equally unacceptable. We arrived to find fecal matter in the bathroom tub, floors that had clearly not been cleaned, and a sofa so stained and filthy it was unusable. Such neglect in basic hygiene is shocking and raises serious questions about the standards maintained by your housekeeping team.||||Regarding dining, while we greatly enjoyed Claudio’s and Nobu, some of the other dining experiences were disappointing. After spending several hours at the casino, we asked the front desk staff for late-night (10:30pm) dining options. We went to Claudio’s at 10:25 PM only to be told the kitchen was closed, despite the website indicating it stayed open until 11:00 PM. We were then informed that Silan or Plato’s were the only available options. For a hotel with a 24-hour casino, having only two dining venues (one a grab and go, and one restaurant with few options) open late is surprising. Unfortunately, our experience at Silan was poor—the food was served cold and, despite requesting reheating, it was returned to us still cold, which was frustrating.||||Adding to our disappointment, we were not notified of the Coral’s impending closure leading up to our stay or during check-in. We only learned about it through a Facebook group and chatter through the resort during our stay. When we first checked in, we overheard other guests expressing frustration, but we thought nothing of it at the time. However, after experiencing the conditions ourselves, it became clear why so many others were dissatisfied. Guests should be informed of such major changes directly and transparently by the hotel, not left to discover it through social media. It’s no wonder this portion of the hotel is being renovated. ||||Given the severity of these issues, which directly impacted our safety, comfort, and overall experience, I trust that you will take immediate and meaningful action to address these concerns. We expect the Atlantis to uphold the highest standards for guest safety and service, and hope our feedback will contribute to improving these critical areas. ||||We hope to see improvements and would welcome the opportunity to return under better circumstances in the future.||||Thank you for your attention. I look forward to your...
Read moreIt was great. The service was fantastic, the room was super clean and recently renovated. Was it the nicest room we have ever stayed in, no. Consider what you are signing up for though. It was the most budget friendly of all of the resorts on the property. If you can afford it maybe look at The Royal or The Reef or The Cove if you have the pocketbook. A lot of people say the cheapest option is the Comfort Inn across the street which offers day passes to Atlantis. But its the Comfort Inn, I didn't come to Bahamas to stay at a Comfort Inn. We came for Atlantis and The Coral fit our budget perfectly. If you were thinking of staying at another resort or a VRBO/Air BNB and want to visit Atlantis know that its $195.00USD per person, per day. Staying on the property makes the most sense. Also prepare for a lot of walking, there is so much to see and the grounds are expansive. There are shuttles that can take you to the other resorts every 15mins or so which does help.
Please also note Atlantis does not offer transport to and from the airport. We contacted Sandra's, her pricing was perfect as was her service. She also allows for stops at the grocery and liquors stores if required.
When we arrived at the resort we were greeted by Jermal with a great big smile and a "Welcome to Bahamas and Atlantis, if there is anything you need during your stay please let me know!" form that moment forward he was our go to guy for the rest of the trip. He is truly an asset to the resort. Every time we saw him he always came over to check on us, see how our day was going, asking us about our plans and offering any help or advice we required. Our room attendant Deshawn was just as good. We saw her almost every day, and looked forward to every interaction. She made us feel like family and her work was top notch. Whenever you asked her how she was her response was always "I am Awesome!" We also had the pleasure of dealing with Enoch the Manager. He was exceptional and made our stay very pleasant, he even arranged something special for my wife on her birthday.
We scoured the internet and read every review for The Coral before booking. Yes Atlantis is dated and some things could be improved but they are forever working on it. It has to be a monumental task itself in upkeep, let alone improvements yet they do it day in and day out. It was always VERY clean. Did we wait for elevators at the Coral, never more than 2-3 minutes, they were never broken. A lot of reviews complain of this but we never had an issue. A ton of reviews harp on the check in process. We did wait in line for about 15 minutes but beyond that it was super smooth, our room wasn't ready at the time (12 Noon) but they sent us a text when it was. We were situated on the 8th floor in 8216. The view of the ocean was partially hidden by one of the other towers but it was still huge. Additionally the proximity of The Coral to The Marina is great, excellent for an evening stroll. Make sure to catch the Junkanoo parade there Tuesday and Friday at 9pm.
The food was as most say unjustly expensive. Nothing we ate while we were there was anything to write home about unless you went off the resort. It could most certainly be taken up a few notches. We enjoyed Poseidon's Table the most. Do spend the $27 on a refillable tumbler for soft drinks. We also lucked out with $800.00 of resort credit when we booked in January which helped immensely. We used every bit of it and more as a family of 3. Maybe a visit to Fish or Nobu could have changed my opinion of the food but didn't have the time to reserve.
In summary Atlantis is still great, we kept saying its like the Vegas of the Caribbean in all its grandeur. It truly is Grand in every sense of the word. Just take a bit of time and really look at the details as you walk around. Really stop and take a look at things. The time and effort that went into making this place is something to behold. There is no shortage of things to do and check out. The beaches, the grounds, the pools, the waterpark, the shops, the casino, its...
Read moreWARNING! DO NOT STAY HERE! My husband and I just returned from staying at the Coral Atlantis and it was the worst place we have ever stayed. There are obvious positives which include: friendly staff on the most part; located in the beautiful Bahamas; amazing marine life NEGATIVES: No room security. After checking in, we went up to our assigned room and when we opened the door there was someone else in the room. The reservation desk have no explanation except that perhaps it's someone that checked out and went back into the room. They offer to let you keep the key card as a "souvenir" upon check out and said that many guests will go back into their room after checking out in case they forgot something. The key cards stay active for hours after check out! Also, the room locks do not work properly so when you leave your room you must re-enter your room key to lock the door. Every time we returned to our room after house keeping had been there, our room as UNLOCKED. When you are inside the room and engage the bolt, you can still open the door from the outside. You have to use the latch in order to ensure that no one comes into your room while you are in there.
Leaks, pipe breaks, awful management. We had a leak into our bathroom which resulted in water pouring out of the ceiling. Engineering came up and said that the broken pipe had been repaired so this was residual water. Later, we were offered a $50 courtesy credit which we found a bit cheap and insulting. The next day, when we returned to our room after being out for the morning we discovered that that our bathroom had no water. My husband called guest services who acknowledged there was an issue with a broken pipe and said that a manager would call us back. No one ever called. He called a couple of hours later, still no answers. We went out and upon return, we TEMPORARILY had water. Before we could hop in the shower, it was gone again. My husband again called downstairs and was told that the same pipe broke and they had no idea when we would have water back. I personally went downstairs to try to speak with a manager. It took almost an hour of me trying to chase a manager down. She was kind and apologetic but at that point, it was too little too late. She assured me that whatever compensation would be offered would be applied to our account the next morning as we were scheduled to fly out the next day. The next morning, there was no credit on our account and when I asked about the credit I was informed that we would be given $75 off our bill. For all of the grief we have been through, no reasonable person would find that acceptable. WE HAD NO WATER IN OUR BATHROOM FOR OVER 8 HOURS. The manager was no where to be found and the reservation desk stated that they were instructed to let us leave without checking us out. They promised that our credit card would not be charged until the manager called and spoke to us and sure enough, we never heard from the manager and they charged our credit card that same day (probably as soon as we left!).
Many, many unhappy guests. We kept running into other upset guests. Example...when we were attempting to check out, a nice couple next to us asked if we were checking in and I said that we were thankfully checking out. They said they had to switch their room THREE TIMES due to problems and were having the worst time. There were so many people that were upset and the staff didn't seem very concerned about it at all. IF anything, they seemed used to it.
Everything is expensive. When booking, keep in mind that all food automatically incurs a 15% tip and 12% VAT. Therefore, on top of the extremely steep prices, you are going to pay an extra 27% whether you purchase a beverage or a dinner. Whatever money you may save on the room by staying at the Coral vs. Cove or Reef (which are much nicer), you will spend once you get there. Our least expensive dinner was $185 (for two people) and that was at the...
