Barbouf — Restaurant in Antwerp

Simple but good food for a reasonable price, in a relaxed setting

Reopened after the pandemic, and it is good to see not much has changed : still the same good food, very friendly staff and owner.

Their kitchen is Belgian-French oriented. They have a small fixed yet varied and tasteful menu. Add to that the daily suggestions, and you are sure to find a tasteful combination to you liking. You won't leave hungry, the portions are very well sized. They work with fresh ingredients.

I can recommend the "garnaalkroketten", "filet pur van het paard" 'horse steak" and the barboufburger Their fries are one of the best in the area

If the weather is nice, definitely try the terras in the courtyard, it is a nice, fairly quiet and relaxing place.

Although it is a bit away from the typical tourist filled streets, it is very close to the old city center and its ambiance, about a 7 minute walk from the Main Square (Grote Markt), City hall and the "Groenplaats", a 15 minute walk from Central Station.

Practical : Closed on wednesdays They accept Visa and Mastercard Parking is difficult in that area, use your legs, a bike, tram, train,... if you do come by car, there are 3 public parkings nearby (Parking Groenplaats, Parking Eiermarkt, Q-Park Antwerpen...

We had lunch at BarBouf in Antwerp.

We ordered two Belgian classics: stoofvlees and vol-au-vent. Both dishes came with a small salad, mayonnaise, and fries.

The vol-au-vent appeared to be made with pre-cooked chicken fillet, cut and added to the sauce. While the portion was generous, it lacked the depth of flavor you’d expect from a freshly prepared dish. The salad looked fresh and was a nice addition.

The mayonnaise was industrial, not homemade, and the fries —disappointing for a Belgian restaurant where fries are usually a highlight.

The stoofvlees also came in a good portion, but the meat wasn’t cooked long enough and was a bit tough. The sauce was overly sweet compared to other versions in town, which might not be to everyone’s taste.

Overall, BarBouf offers filling portions, but the quality of ingredients and flavors didn’t quite meet my...

Came across this restaurant by the inner garden was a surprise! Pasta bar bouf and the 1.3KG mussels were awesome. Staff were really nice, they spot my need right at the second, I only need to look at them, they would just know what I want and if I need them to come. Even we were sitting away and outdoors, still felt being taken care of....
