Le Pristine — Restaurant in Antwerp

Food was okay, instagrammable, but that’s about it. Plenty of other good restaurant choices in Antwerp. I wouldn’t make a special effort to come here. The space is beautiful.

Service from some of the staff was good (as you would expect from restaurants of this price point), however some of the other staff was rather robotic in their service delivery.

I had a table facing the kitchen, so was able to watch the chefs in action. Could be just me being picky, or maybe just about everyone was having the same orecchiette for their main dish and therefore the chef got a little bored, but I didn’t find the head chef was cooking with much passion. On the other hand, the two young chefs in charge of the oven section (especially the female chef) was doing her work with passion and heart.

Wines here (I drink French) are on average 15-20% more expensive here than the other higher ranked restaurants in Antwerp that I visited.

I was told Sergio will bring his brand to Singapore in 2023. Surely lots of instagrammers...

Ordered takeaway directly via the restaurant website. Cheaper than deliveroo. The duck confit rigatoni was a pure delight, so was the king crab artisanal pizza, though it was drenched in olive oil (in a good way lol). Decent portions (for a slender female lol). The pickup process was a bit chaotic though. Anyway, it’s great to be able to enjoy these dishes at home during corona!

The other week I tried more dishes. Both the seafood and ragu pasta tasted good as expected. The seafood pasta had four mussels, one red shrimp and some more mini shrimps. The sauce could have been thicker and flavourful but I found it satisfactory. Tiramisu (11euro) is perhaps the most expensive takeaway tiramisu i have ever tasted. It was delicious. The runny texture of mascarpone cream (because it was placed next to warm food?) and the crystallised bits set it apart from the others.

I also tried pasta carbonara with squid but a different kind of pasta (not my favourite ) was used (not the one featured in the online menu). The taste is okay but a bit on...

I really don’t want to give this restaurant 4/5, but the service was not great and not what is expected of a Michelin Star. We had two waiters and one was really good, while the other one forgot our drink order twice and we had to ask multiple time for a check. We also had condensate from pipes dripping on my head and the table. Very weird, and we’re probably not the only ones this happened to at that table. Again, not cool for a restaurant of this level. The food was really good, 5/5 there. There were 4 of us and we all got a 4 course menu. One of our friends was pregnant and the restaurant was really good at accommodating her.
