flimsy paper straws. Raw, tasteless 'Fluffy' Pancakes. Insulting waitress. All style over substance. Beware!
Overall, Kafei Korner is a judgmental "m'as-tu vu" Instagram-worthy place, where style prevails over substance. The Fluffy Pancakes were far from the delightful clouds they advertised. It turns out to taste like egg omelette and the food quality was lacking.
They were perfectly undercooked and raw inside. A Fluffy Japanese Soufflé Pancakes are supposed to be like eating cottony clouds, perfectly cooked through. It was far from the star of the show that it should have been.
Adding to our disappointment, the decision to dine in resulted in receiving our beverages in plastic cups with flimsy paper straws... A paper straw that itself lacked structure and couldn't stay straight for more than a few minutes. It was wasteful and turned into a perfect irony with an ineffective attempt at sustainability. Despite being seated on the terrace, it would have been more enjoyable to have our drinks served in glassware. The irony of the plastic cup and paper straws for the environment was not lost on me.
Furthermore, while the menu boasted a variety of options, the quality of the food didn't match up. It seemed that they focused more on offering a wide selection rather than ensuring the star dish was prepared to perfection.
To make matters worse, a waitress had the audacity to mutter "asshole" in a poorly accented French behind our backs, seemingly in response to my dissatisfaction with the decomposing straw on the uncooked...
Read moreTerrible experience. We were a party of four with a small child and managed to find a spot with the child (in the pram, they had not seats for children), at the head of the table. While I was ordering the food at the bar and our child, accompanied by one of our friends, was wandering around the place, a woman appeared and loudly demanded that we move our child's pram away so she can take the place. She didn't seem to care that it was doubling as our child's chair (and yes, we bought our child some separate food at the bar so she was consuming too). My friends, assuming she only wanted to briefly sit down while waiting for another spot to open up moved the pram... and then the woman simply refused to move, even as other spots became available. We complained to the staff and they insisted on moving us, a part of four, with a small child, to a different table while letting that impertinent woman continue to sit there. I was outraged but the time I returned from the queue the damage had been done. When the woman left a bit later, we noticed she was addressing a staff member by their name, suggesting she is a regular. I will never return to this disgraceful place.
Place is cramped and loud. Pancakes are fine.
Edit after reply: Misunderstanding? Not really, everybody understood everything fine. Your staff just decided to prioritise that worthless...
Read moreI'm sad to put a review like this... I was here today and the staff are just ignorning me for a couple of minutes while I was in front of the counter. They just continued chatting. I also work in Horeca and the heart of any restaurant, brunch place or anywhere else is client service. And if didn't feel like that at all.
As you can see from the photo, this is how they fill up their drinks. I noticed this already before and I was really shocked to see this. I thought it was a rule to fill up everything up to the rim (obviously not to the point that it spills). And it gets filled up because milk gets frothed first and there's a bit foam for cold drinks. The barista gave it to me without the strawberry, obviously not paying attention to the ticket as they are busy chatting. Didn't even say sorry 🫠
I ordered this matcha strawberry and tasted very odd. I've had this before somewhere else and that tasted divine. This turned into brown afterwards and tasted odd. They use the same compote I think for their pancakes. For drinks like this it could be better to use syrup.
I hope this helps... but I saw the bad reviews here and still they have the same problem. So I'll just go to Dansaert than here or until the customer service gets...
