First off all - tbh the staff was really nice , trying to help tourist and make it a great experience, trying to help with language barrier and did their best to communicate. The Restaurant itself was really nice and the open fire was really cosy, the paper tablecloth ... a new experience - but oke if it's cheaper with the economy right now, understandable. At first we were really happy to find a nice place after a long day waking around the City. --- The food Starters: 2 smal croquettes - 19 Euro no comment 5 pieces of Shrimp "grilled with garlic" - a little overdone and chewy , the shell seemed really garlicy but the shrimp/flesh itself rather tasteless- 25 Euro Mains Chickenbreast with "Estragon" 4 small pieces of chicken with a big leave of lettuce and half a shredded carrot with 12 fries for 25 € ... the chicken was killed 4 times and ressuracted and then grilled again - to make it less dry , it was served with a "sauce" ( heavy cream with 4pieces of mushrooms). - the disappoinment was really big tbh - but the mistake is on me - it was my first meal today and I just was hungry and at one point I just didn't care anymore, wanted to finish and just leave. "Beef stew " 25 Euro The meat really long cooked, no need to chew ( tender and smooth oke , but almost dissolving - but mabye just a personal preference) - but the sauce was really disgusting onions flour and instant powder - it tasted absolutely like nothing , no salt no pepper no depth no flavour. - half of it was sent back Steak - 27 Euro Medium ordered - seemed like it was only grilled on one side. In the middle raw and on the edges almost cremated - comment on the dish from my friend " It's a shame that the animal had to die for that". - half of it was sent back 3 Person 153 Euro Don't know if this area is only for tourists or anything like that - I dont have much experiece dining in belgium at all. !!! And to be fair our mistake - we really just did not have the strength and willpower to argue and complain we just wanted to leave and get over with. A experince once in a lifetime and won't be back there. Food is always influenced by many things and taste is always diffrent. But this night was just a disappiontment on another level 😢 But please make your own...
Read moreThe restaurant is likely "temporarily closed" due to investigation into their scam price practices.
There are also a tonne of 5 star reviews here from fake accounts only having 1 review. A disproportionate number are from accounts having Portuguese/Brazilian names and only 1 review. There aren't THAT many tourists specifically from those areas in Brussels. Some of the waitresses are Brazilian so maybe they're paying a click farm for all these fake reviews.
This restaurant is horribly misleading and not transparent with communication in pricing. There is a carbonnade dish that is on their "plat du jour" menu advertised for 15 euros on a big sign in front of their restaurant. When I went inside to order, I asked to see a picture and chose to order that dish.
However, when I went to pay, they said it was 25 euros and a different menu. That menu I was shown didn't have pricing on it but they said it was a different one from the plat du jour. Absolutely unacceptable to not communicate this and blame the customer and very unpleasant to be surprised with an extra 10 euro charge.
The dish itself was very small and despite us having been the first customers in the restaurant, it came out a cold. It seems they kept us waiting to make the restaurant look occupied to entice people to come in, all at the expense of my dish coming out cold.
Neither the quantity nor quality of the dishes are worth the price and to add insult to injury, they decide customers on pricing by making the name of a plat du jour dish sound like a much more expensive one. Do NOT come here. There are plenty of better...
Read moreFirst the food: The food was okay... When going to a restaurant you expect something outstanding ofcourse. I want to have the experience where I think: "wow, this is actually really a pleasure which I don't get to taste often!". We ordered the vol au vent. The downpart was that the pastry was soaked with the ragout and therefore we did not really get that taste of it... other things we got with this meal were Belgian fries and a salad which were okay... Now I need to add as side note that it will probably be enough food which is served. My mate weighs 90Kg and eats much. However the whole portion of the fries with vol au vent and salad were enough for us to leave with a full tummy.
Now the service: The service was good. The waiter was kind to us, but we were lured inside by him. We were just looking on the menu outside and he started talking us into it. However, once we were inside, the service was fast and the waiters were kind.
And lastly, the atmosphere: There is not a lot to say about this part honestly. The ambiance here is nice...
