We arrived from a long drive from London on Monday evening to have Christmas dinner to this restaurant, which we found through Michellin guide by the way. Firstly, we were offered a table with only one chair and my friend had to stand in front of the told us to wait for our turn, nothing was offered to us. Nor a menu, or bread or something to drink. After 15-20mins waiting he realised we were still sitting there, and he just (literally) threw two pieces of bread and butter and gave it to us. Another waiter came over and gave us the menu. So far so good our drinks and water were served in time. Then we asked for the waiter to come and get the food order as we were sipping our drink for another 15mins. He said is busy stormed off. Then he came back 5-10mins later to take the order. So he was ready with his pen and pad to take our full order. I asked to have the bone marrow as a starter, he said is sold out and then left, and went to serve food to another table. He came back once he served the food. By that time I was very annoyed already. So we made our order, and took a different starter as he said that the one I wanted is sold out. It got interesting when the main dish arrived, my friend ordered “Grilled filled o beef” and he was served the bone marrow that I was told is sold out! The waiter came and he tried to convince my friend that what he was served is the “grilled filled o beef” bear in mind this was all in Dutch. The waiter specifically pointed on the menu the choice that my friend made trying to convince him that the plate he had in front of him was the one he ordered. I think the waiter saw that we are tourists and to be honest we were so tired from the trip, that he thought that we ended up there by accident! So he didn’t pay the appropriate attention. The food was nice, but the very poor service...
Read moremy first visit since the arrival of the new owners, a total disaster, they altered the decoration, in a bad way, it was PERFECT, but much worse, they changed all the recipes, and it was just BAD, the croquettes de crevettes contained no shrimp at all, and had a weird shape, too narrow for my taste, the cheese croquettes looked industrial, the americain looked like it had been prepared in advance, that is simply illegal in the EU, and it wasn't very good, lets say it was very average, the fries are absolutely awful, too soft, my mom ordered the fillet pur, saignant, i was passed "a point" almost well done,, we asked for a new one, the meat was good, but the bearnaise is THE WORST i have ever tasted, it was made with dried herbs, and the texture was that of BUTTER, it was not a sauce !! AWFUL !!! unforgivable, i don't know what would have been worse, permanently losing one of the classic restaurants of the city, or this ! i don't even think it can improve, the owner is clearly not interested, oh and, the Taverne was open all day, every day, not they close, i dont' see why, the waiter told me we don't stay open because nobody comes, YEAH i see why now !! that béarnaise alone is a reason never to come back, NEVER ! and i have been here over 50 times !, no more.
the atmosphere was terrible, there was a group of tourists shouting louder and louder (guess why) and nobody did anything about it, at the end i could not hear my mom speak, only 2 tables had guests !
i looked at some of the pictures here, the americain i had was dark, oxydized, not like the one i saw on a picture by another reviewer, is that good ? no, it just show inconsistency, and owner, please don't reply to my review, i'm not interested by...
