Overall, my experience was kind of satisfactory. There were some minor disappointments, but the food was generally acceptable.
I just had very high expectations before visiting this restaurant because, during my first trip to Belgium six years ago, I had my first taste of European course dinner there with a childhood friend, and we were extremely satisfied. Therefore, when planning my return trip to Brussels, I was determined to dine at this restaurant again.
I made an online reservation about six days before the visit. It seems that a reservation is essential for dining here. For my weekend trip, the only available reservation slots were for Sunday lunchtime.
I visited the restaurant with great expectations, bringing a partner along, and we ordered different courses. One meal was priced at €35 per person, and the other at €40. (I understand the price increase since six years ago when we had a €22.5 course per person due to inflation and the passage of time.)
When we first arrived at the restaurant, we stood at the entrance without any guidance, even though we had a reservation. We were left waiting without any information. The servers seemed extremely busy. Once we were seated, the meal began, and the mussel appetizer was very satisfying. The fried Brie cheese was equally delightful. (The appetizers seemed to be the highlight of the meal.)
We enjoyed the main courses, which included beef and rabbit, but the restaurant was so packed and busy that the servers did not inform us about the desserts. After the main course, we waited at an empty table for about 40 minutes without any guidance. Unable to wait any longer, we called a waitress to order dessert, only for her to seem forgot about our course choices of us (she asked about dessert options). After a long wait, we finally got our desserts, but it seemed they had also forgotten our request for an additional drink. We waited but received no further updates and eventually gave up asking.
Overall, the food was good, and the meat dishes were flavorful and well-preserved in tradition. While the desserts weren’t as impressive as those from specialized bakeries. Despite experiencing delays and inconveniences with the service, I was happy to revisit the restaurant.
Keep in mind that the restaurant is quite small and often crowded, which can be uncomfortable. Also Improving the service would be beneficial for a better overall experience...
Read moreI’d like to start this review by saying that the main deduction of stars was because of the food. My daughter and I came here for lunch, mainly due to all the 5 star reviews, especially the high reviews about moules frite. However, I honestly found the food to be a bit of a disappointment and wouldn’t recommend. The interior was pleasant with comfortable chairs and nice lighting. The servers were very friendly and attentive - due to the great wait staff I think the service overall is good. As for the food, it ranged from mediocre to bad. I got the mussels and fries and split them with my daughter. I don’t understand the other high reviews. The mussels were at best, bland and mediocre. They tasted a bit briny and some weren’t completely cleaned - I.e a crunch of grit. There was minimal sauce and the flavor was bland. The fries were nothing special, just average fries; if you like thicker fries you’d like them. Because the mussels were so mediocre we opted to not order additional food, although the steak at the table next to ours looked good. We ordered the Belgian waffle and chocolate mousse for dessert. It took almost 20 minutes for our dessert to arrive however the servers were kind about it and apologetic. For comparison, the main dishes arrived quickly to all tables so I think there may have been a kitchen service delay for the desserts. The waffle was inedible. It was hard and crunchy - no part of it was soft or chewy. The texture was completely wrong and it almost seemed like a day old waffle that had been sitting out and gone stale. The chocolate mousse hardly resembled mousse to me. It wasn’t very light or fluffy, and was extremely sweet and not very chocolaty. My daughter’s favorite part about the dessert was the Chantilly lace cream. We might’ve just not ordered the right things as we noticed tables around us ordered beef with ice cream for dessert, and the food looked good and the customers seemed happy with their meals. As I mentioned, the low stars is for the food taste and quality. The waitstaff were all...
