Some reviews should say nothing, so as not to spoil the surprise. Go to Illusion, because you will love it, that’s it. Nothing to add, but … you need to prepare well if you want to extract the best from the experience. There are few things to take into consideration before turning up. The whole point of Illusion is to have fun and collect quirky photos, therefore you need two things to enjoy this place: a decent camera, and as few people as possible to photo bomb your enjoyment. And this is where things can get a bit complicated. You don’t need to have read Sartre to appreciate that in Illusion, hell is other people. The only way to properly enjoy this place is to not share it with a long line of strangers because you will soon come to believe that they are idiots deliberatly sent to get in your way. Nothing spoils the fun of Illusion like having to share it with others. The staff are very aware of this and they try their best to manage the flow of people through this constricted and winding old building. The guides are incredibly helpful and always available to take photos of you and your friends or to advise on what the best pose or angle for the shot should be. They are a terrific addition to the experience since once you walk away you don't want a pixel out of place when looking back at yourself impersonnating a spiderman pose on a fake bedroom ceiling. Here are my top tips for getting it right: Go early, book the first slot of the day or go when nobody else does (probably on a wet weekday). Avoid weekends altogether Always book in advance, there is no point in turning up on spec Have your best camera ready Go with someone fun, kids love this place Don't get too hung up on working out how it is done, enjoy being fooled Wear something comfortable that you don't mind getting dirty as rolling about the floor is an expected part of the experience Be patient with others, but be quick to get the shot you want and move on We were lucky and booked an early slot on a rainy Sunday morning in January when no one else dares to step outside, but it only takes one fool with a half-ton Nikkon to spoil the fun as a long line of people gather in his tow, because he tries to get the perfect lighting and takes 10 minutes to set up a shot that you can snag in under ten seconds on your iPhone. The only illusion that is not an illusion in Illusion, is that other people can...

Read moreDearest Reader,
Upon mine recent sojourn to the esteemed Brussels Illusions Museum, I didst encounter not merely a house of marvels, but a veritable temple of wonder presided over by none other than the illustrious Aaron the Magnificent.
Indeed, the illusions themselves did confound the eye and delight the senses — but 'twas Aaron who emerged as the true sorcerer of the hour. With wit as sharp as the Duke’s jawline and charm more radiant than Lady Whistledown’s prose, he did lead us through halls of trickery and delight with such mirth and mastery that our party was rendered utterly spellbound.
His humour didst soar like a well-flung bonnet, and his knowledge of the mysterious arts knew no bounds. ‘Twas as though Apollo himself had descended from the heavens to guide us mortals through this curious domain. One could not help but laugh — nay, cackle — at his every jest, nor could we restrain our awe at his impeccable delivery.
In fine, should you find yourself in Brussels and not seek out this most magical of institutions — and the divine Aaron — you do thyself a grievous disservice.
With utmost admiration and not a little swooning, A Most...
