This was another wonderful meal during our stay in Ghent. We really didn't know what to expect with a Belgium restaurant but everything we had was wonderfully flavorful and unique.
We started with an order of bruschetta which was so fresh and light it was excellent. I also had a Moscow mule that was really good. Granted it's pretty hard to mess up a Moscow mule LOL.
Our son had the meat skewer with tomato cream dipping sauce. He's a pretty picky eater but ate every bit of the meat and declared the dipping sauce delicious.
I'm not typically a big fish eater but I decided to try the fish stew. This was made from five different kinds of fish in a white cream sauce. This baked fish was fantastic and I ate every bit of it!
My wife had a roasted red pepper stuffed with mashed sweet potatoes, feta (we think) and chick peas. The textures, tastes and even colors blended in an incredible way! This was a surprise and the chef should get an extra gold...
Read moreMy husband and I recently visited 't Oud Clooster during our lovely city break in Ghent, and it proved to be a wonderful spot for dinner. The building itself is absolutely stunning, boasting historical charm and a beautiful atmosphere that made the experience feel quite special. The only minor niggle in what was otherwise a great evening was the proximity of the dining tables. They are placed rather close together, which meant we felt slightly lacking in privacy for our own conversation. That said, this small point certainly wouldn't deter us from highly recommending this restaurant to anyone visiting the city. Make sure you book in advance, as it's clearly a very popular...
Read moreBland food. Long wait. Not at all welcoming for foreigners. No menu in english or french or any other language. Tables very crowded together. No place to hang clothes other than your own chair, if you have a long winter coat, too bad, you just sit on it throughout dinner.
LE: Dear owner, thank you for replying to my review from 11 months ago, very thoughtful. Also, if you would've showed interest in actually reading my comment, you would've realised that the other language I was refering to was not "flamish, a version of dutch" - although very useful and rare information, by the way, thanks for sharing - but what I actually said was that there was no menu in any other language. Hence not at all foreigners-friendly place. Having a waiter verbally recite the menu is not really helpful or comfortable. But sure, sending condescending replies to customers will make everything better....
