It is not a restaurant for kids or perhaps Asians, which is ironic for an Asian restaurant. We walked early dinner hours as a group of five, three children. The restaurant was empty but did not get the table the kids wanted. We were shoved to a table next to the entrance, and was told all the other table was reserved on a Wednesday evening;p Food was served fast, soup noodle was not right, otherwise it's a fair taste. The service was not welcoming to say the least. When we were not feeling welcomed, we ate quickly and left. Left exact cash on the table, but the waiter chased out of the restaurant for money didn't even check the table. Note it was still an empty restaurant when we finished. Not a single customer entered the restaurant the whole we were there.
See the review on Google. It's fair to say if you want a good time in Gent. Try avoid this restaurant, as it can give you terrible experience.
The night before we tried the Pitaya Thai restaurant take away. Great service from the girl at...
Read moreLucy Chang is a small chain of Asian fusion restaurants. I'm an enthusiast of Asian cuisine in general and visited several countries in South-East Asia, so I'm quite familiar with the taste of common local (street food) Asian dishes. To master each of these Asian countries cuisines is already quite a challenge when it comes to finding all the necessary (fresh) ingredients and the skill it needs for the preparation. Lucy Chang however tries to offer as well as Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese dishes... (a near impossible challenge) with a mediocre result. Thai people may feel offended with the pseudo chopped off Buddha head on display for interior design. Lucy Chang may be suitable as an introduction for westerners who have no clue which Asian cuisine they prefer, but people who have a preference for a certain cuisine (be it Thai, Japanese, Chinese or Vietnamese) will be better of visiting a specialty restaurant. The interior design is quite nice, but it's also a fusion of different...
Read moreLucy Chang claims expertise in Vietnamese, Thai, Malaysian, and Chinese cuisines. We had fabulous starters here, their Vietnamese nems and chicken wings were delectable. For mains we ordered their Thai green curry served with rice and the Malaysian curry noodle soup. These were tasty but lacked authenticity. The dishes at Lucy Chang seem to lean towards a generalised Asian flavour palette instead of capturing the authentic essence of each cuisine, which might be challenging when claiming to specialise in such diverse Asian cuisines. Staff was friendly and attentive.
Update: we came back and this time we were impressed. This time we decided to order one main dish (pad thai) and some of their starters to share among the four of us. Veggie dim sum, vietnamese chicken wings, salt and pepper shrimp, and their vietnamese nems. Don’t sleep on their veggie dim sum as this was just as noteworthy! The star of the show was the pad thai, it surpassed their...
