Faits Divers — Restaurant in Ghent

I am not sure what is going on here. This is a tourist place for sure. I ordered a beer and soup and it was a disappointment. The waiter was helpful with providing me great input into which local beer to try. However what was recommended was not what I got. There was some confusion in the kitchen and instead of a blond ale I received an amber. The soup of the day was vegetable. I had lowered my standards already since I was getting the €5 soup of the day. I received semi hot veggie broth. It was something you would have seen in the Middle Ages and it looked like I got the last scraps of the veggie soup. Avoid! This place used to be great and we are here many times each year when staying in Ghent. On our visit, some months ago, the vol-au-vent was swimming in watery sauce and cold. The "sirloin' steak was very ( about 3mm) thin and horribly overcooked. The chips were cold.The wine was un-drinkable and beer never arrived. The waitress, who seemed lost, told us that she could not replace any item or refund anything, the chef was away and the kitchen hand was doing the cooking. We asked for the manager but he was also away. The place was unusually empty. We said we would not come back again after years of visits unless she did something like substitute the dishes or refund and she said "your choice."

So we never went back and never...

Location good being on a main road.....but that is about all. Food is nothing but medioca. The service we had was little short of terrible. My food came out first with quite a delay before the rest of our meals which meant i had to start or it would have gone cold. Then when the other meals did arrive one meal was wrong. When we mentioned this the waiter shrugged his shoulders as if to say tough. When the bill was presented we tried to get a discount on the wrong meal and they refused. We asked to speak to a manager and they sent some young lad who had been in the kitchen. Arguments broke out and the staff became rude. I would only recommend this place if you are looking for ok food...
