It's an absolute gem of a nepali restaurant! The cosy indoor setting created the perfect atmosphere calm, welcoming, and filled with the comforting aroma of home-style cooking. We started with the momo dumplings—steamed to perfection with a juicy, flavorful filling and a spicy dipping sauce that packed a punch. The dal bhat was outstanding: simple, nourishing, and deeply satisfying, just like a traditional Nepali meal should be. The gundruk soup was another standout—earthy, tangy, and full of character. What made the experience even better was genuine hospitality. The staff was kind, attentive, and eager to share the story behind the dishes. You could tell they take real pride in their culture and food. If you're looking for authentic Nepali and indian flavours in a peaceful indoor setting, this place is a must. It is a perfect spot for both comfort food lovers and anyone wanting to explore something new. We’ll definitely be back!

This was a delightful experience from start to finish. After a day of strolling around Gent and working up an appetite, we landed on Himalayan. What a great choice that was. First and foremost, our server was bright, cheerful and caring, with a warm greeting at the door. As my dining companion had begun losing her voice, our server commented on my choice of drinking a cold beverage and said to my friend, “I’ll make you a perfect warm tea” — and “perfect” it was! The food was great, the atmosphere was pleasant and inviting. Although we found ourselves lost in conversation and still there beyond closing time, we were never rushed or hurried — only welcomed with smiles. Five stars for the overall experience along with bonus stars for the lovely service and making us feel special. A personal note to our server directly: “Thank you for creating a special moment for us.” Until next time…

Ok service and atmosphere but we were disappointed by the food. Our starter came out still frozen (we got the veg starter mix) and so they re-fried it for us. Our mains were extremely oily- I ordered a coconut curry and there was no coconut in it? Just veggies swimming in oil. I had spoonfuls of just oil. Our waitress told us these dishes were very light and almost no oil so we were not prepared for this. We tried to eat it but couldn’t finish. My boyfriend as well was very disappointed with his dish (Thali) - He had a stomach ache the rest of the evening. If we ate here every day we would have clogged arteries and a heart attack. Shame because we wanted to enjoy it but won’t return because the food was so bad.

My wife and I went there last night (I am the grumpy old one and she is the blonde). We have lived in Belgium for many years and love it BUT good Asian food is hard to get. We have been going to the Himalayan restaurant for many years and it's always been good but in the past year or so the food and service have moved onto another level. The delicious thalis allow you to sample many different dishes and the sizzling plates smell and taste delicious. My personal favourite is Lamb Madras and last night I tried the even hotter Lamb Vindaloo - they were both deliciously spiced, not over hot and my only complaint is that there was too much. My wife had the Chicken Madras which i can confirm was also delicious. If spicy is not your thing there are loads of dishes which are much milder and still very taste - I am a great fan of their lentil soup.

The main dishes are great but so are the gratis popadoms and the side like the tasteyNan breads and the delicious Sag Aloo.

To cap it off the service is polite, efficient and the "smiliest" you can imagine -...

Worst experience. The person started abusing us and also stared saying i will beat you up .

Update : so here is the whole story. After a day visit of the beautiful Ghent. We entered this restaurant with happy faces. We sat and when the waiter approached us for the order and we started ordering and asked nicely about the food and his preference for us. And that is when he started talking rudely , May be this was because of our ethnicity. His behaviour made us uncomfortable and then he said that everything is in front of you and left . As we felt very disrespected we said we don't want to order and we are leaving. And that is when he stared with the abuse and threats .

We still were talking respectfully and left.

Now, I thought is it only me but later i saw many other comments with similar behaviour.

And his audacity to ask for money for the food which we never had and then lie then again threaten us and ask me to remove the comments is just appalling.

Being a south Asian i think People like these are always representing bad image of the south...

I had a deeply unpleasant experience at this restaurant during my recent visit to Ghent on 26/05/2025. Shortly after consuming my meal, I became violently ill and began vomiting. When I raised this with the staff, they admitted that construction work in the kitchen had caused debris to contaminate the dough used in our meal — and that they had served it to us regardless. The staff was not even apologetic for serving contaminated dough and took it in a very casual way.

This admission was deeply concerning, as it shows a clear disregard for food safety standards. I was unwell for the remainder of the day and had to cut my trip short and return to London due to the severity of my symptoms.

As someone who frequently travels and dines out, this was one of the most troubling incidents I’ve encountered. I have since reported the matter to the Belgian Food Safety Authority (AFSCA) and await their investigation.

I strongly advise future patrons to exercise caution. Food safety is non-negotiable, and such oversight should never be...
