La cantina del Donki — Restaurant in Ghent

Came here with the family for a good treat. we all ordered and everything was set. The vegan dish, wich we specifically triple checked with the waiter was plain chicken and normal cheese. portions are extremely small. ordered appetizers nachos and Corn on the cob ( 2 cobs it said), actually 2x 1/3rd of a cob for 12 euro ? they give you about 25 nachos for 12.5 euro ? got 3 half nachos with the main dish ???? after we got the manager to ask the reason why the vegan dish was plain chicken, they made her a new one and drinks on the house, wich we accepted reluctantly, seeing everyone was already finished with their food and we'd have to wait for a the new order. but hey they tried to make it allright, everyone makes mistakes. as i'm writing this my wife is sick in her stomache , my son puked twice now. I don't have high expectations, but i expect atleast the food to be safe enough even if it isn't top of the line. would...

I could not recommend this place LESS. To start it off, the option of making an enchilada vegan was non viable but they do have vegan chicken and cheese on hand, (which is only reserved for the boritos) so my vegan mother went for the (only) vegetarian option and requested vegan cheese as a substitute. Half way through her meal did she realize that not only the cheese wasn't vegan but the chicken was also not vegetarian.

I went with the chilli con carne bowl which was served cold.

My son went with a chicken burrito as well, and has been ill for 2 days now, nothing of that burrito actually made it into his digestive track to begin with, to keep things somewhat formal here.

The portions are also small and over priced, leaving you with an unfulfilled feeling (until you get sick from the food).

The atmosphere is great, the staff are friendly but the food is absolutely horrific. One star is...

I had lunch with some friends at the Cantina Donki…and we all loved it. The place is really cozy and beautifully decorated. The staff is friendly and helpful. The best of all: the food. It is really Mexican, not tex mex as so many false “Mexican restaurants” in Belgium. We had different starters ( topetes with guacamole, frijoles refritos and different salsas) fresh and real. Then we had different kind of tacos ( carnitas, mezcal, )and enchilada verde . Everything was fresh and tasty. Desert was very special: manganada; simply delicious. The price was really reasonable.
