Steendam 66 "Chez Bolle" — Restaurant in Ghent

First: we did not eat here. But we had a BAD EXPERIENCE with the management (obviously the owner himself). My son (11) and I walked into this restaurant as he had an „emergency“ issue with his stomach and needed to see the restrooms — for those of you who have kids or grandkids, you know what this is like. Never ever has a restaurant or shop owner refused using the services. Well, the owner himself just did this today on December 31st. He waved us off, letting us know he had a „private party“ going on. I asked politely again, declaring the emergency situation. He insisted he would not be able to help. Everyone should know what to make of this behavior….

Note: 10 minutes later, a kind owner of a 8-euro-per-meal Kebab diner would let us use his toilet. Well kindness comes in different shapes and price...

Absolutely loved this restaurant. You enter a wood panelled restaurant with great selection of clarets and interesting wines on the walls. Old school atmosphere and locals / Flemish people dining - mainly men. V good front of house person who was knowledgable and helpful. Excellent menu with regional dishes and fish etc. delicious ‘gamba’ starter with delicious sauce . Yummy pigs cheeks and I had a rich Tongue stew. Much more authentic that many of the more touristy...

This restaurant is definitely one of my favorites in Gent! It is small and cozy, the service is great and you can see the chef working in the small open kitchen area. He really knows the art of cooking! It is incredible to watch him create the most delicious dishes. Everything we tried was cooked to perfection. Especially the fish was great! Absolute recommendation! You should make a reservation though, as there are not too...
