We hoped to discover a new spot to grab a bite to eat, away from the typical touristy places that can be overcrowded. After browsing through Google, the glowing reviews convinced me to give this place a try.
At first, the outside was a little irregular, and we couldn't see through the window to see if it was busy, but we persisted. At first, we were the only two people in and felt as if we might have missed the rush. After sitting down, the decor is very niche and bespoke somewhat ninteen twenty/thirty, as if we had gone back in time into a wonderful French brasserie.
We weren't very confident in our French language skills and the menus were all in French with no English translations. But we didn't let that stop us, and we were pleasantly surprised by how amazing the food was and what a great value it was.
This place is so underrated and definitely a must-visit while in Ghent. I have to say, it serves one of the best steaks I've had in a long time. Watching the owner cook the steak right in front of us added a beautiful personal touch to the whole experience. Highly recommended!
The atmosphere at the venue was almost perfect, except for the fact that we were the only couple there for the first 20 minutes until a group of men arrived. The music added a nice touch of nostalgia.
If you're a steak lover, I highly recommend trying this place. You might just leave wondering why you didn't...

He sent me to Au Bouef Qui Rit, where I welcomed in, sat at a lovely table near the fire, and served a delicious steak dinner. I stayed until 3:30am chatting with the owner and other guests at the restaurant! What a wonderful memory! I hope to...
Read moreI wish there were more restaurants like this where it's not about following the latest trends or a "concept". This business has a soul, it's a clear reflection of the owner's character and interests. The open flame, charming interior and classic french music (Charles Trenet etc.) create a unique nostalgic atmosphere. As the whole restaurant (both kitchen and service) is run by one person, the lady owner, it feels almost like you are dining in someone's living room. To run a whole restaurant by yourself while serving consistent quality deserves a...
